Job overview

We want the Best Head of School in the World!

Cumbria Academy for Autism is a small school with big ambitions, our young people all have Autistic Spectrum Conditions, and range in age from 7-17 at the moment. We opened as a free school in September 2019 and have grown to 8 classes with 56 pupils on roll.

We are looking for a special individual to lead our whole school community into a successful future.  They will be supported by our Executive Head Teacher, and as such, this would be an excellent opportunity for someone who is looking to advance their career from a senior leadership position, as well as an experienced school leader.

We need the successful candidate to understand our pupils and their autism, supporting them in school but also enabling them to make steps into the wider community.

To support our school to grow, we are seeking to join The Eden Academy Trust; this is a Trust solely for specialist schools such as us, and we firmly believe together we can achieve more. The successful candidate will benefit from the specialist knowledge, network and support of the trust.

The Governors are keen to work with, and support, our new Head of School in developing a clear vision for the future of the school, as we continue to grow.

We are seeking a candidate with a track record of successful school improvement and leadership experience, who will be able to build on our school’s existing strengths and continue the required improvement into the future. We are looking for an inspirational, creative, caring and forward-thinking school leader who understands our community and who will work in partnership with the staff, Governors, parents, carers and pupils in leading us to the next phase of our development.

We believe that our school has a lot to offer to the right candidate, to become part of this welcoming school community and the wider local community of Cumberland.

If you would like to have an informal discussion before applying, or to arrange a visit, please contact Carly Wallace Lawman, Business Manager at c.wallacelawman@cumbriaacademyforautism.org.uk

The successful applicant will be subject to a fully enhanced DBS check

Cumbria Academy for Autism is a brand new, aspirational special free-school. It will serve the boroughs of Allerdale and Copeland in West Cumbria, providing a unique educational experience for 56 students between the ages of 4 to 19 years old. We will deliver high quality education and intervention in a learning environment which will enable children to achieve their full potential in their future lives. We are passionate about improving the life chances of autistic children and young people in West Cumbria. After three years of planning and applications we have now been approved by the DfE, with local authority support, to open in September 2019.

We are seeking to recruit dynamic individuals who will share our vision. We aim to recruit an exemplary and highly energetic leadership group and staff team that will quickly establish CAA as a centre of excellence for autism learning.

We are looking for leaders and staff who will have a positive contribution towards an open and trusting culture, who can bring a collaborative and ‘can do’ solution-focused attitude and who know that the only way to achieve excellence is to maintain and motivate high-performing teams across the school. Successful candidates will demonstrate their enthusiasm, drive and dedication to make CAA a school that can guarantee to maximise pupil progress and achievement through an outstanding learning experience.

If you feel you can meet the needs of all our students without limitation, and are excited to support CAA on its journey, then we look forward to hearing from you. Please be sure to follow Cumbria Academy for Autism, on the TES site, to receive notifications of our vacancies as they arise.
