Job overview

Energy Coast UTC was inspected in June 2019 and judged to be outstanding in all areas. We are a specialist Engineering college and pride ourselves on our ability to transform the life chances of students through a technically focused education; providing students with the opportunity to engage with a wide range of academic and technical qualifications, alongside projects with industry professionals, to ensure that our students are fully prepared for their future life and progression routes.

This was highlighted as a key strength by Ofsted who identified that “almost all of those who complete their studies at the end of the sixth form excel in securing highly valued opportunities in employment and further training” and that “almost all pupils leave the college to start careers in Engineering or related industries”. We are looking for someone who can contribute towards and improve on our already outstanding performance.

We are ambitious.

We are tenacious.

We are employable.

At Energy Coast UTC our intent is to deliver academic excellence alongside a world class technical and skills based practical education, ensuring our students also excel in employability skills and work directly with employers on a range of projects. Our outstanding 14-19 college, located on the edge of the Lake District National Park in an area of outstanding natural beauty, is a thriving educational setting which has nurtured partnerships between industry and education. We prepare students to meet the demand for highly skilled engineers and civil engineers in Cumbria and the world. We do this by ensuring that every student maximises their academic potential, experiences a wide range of enrichment activities, secures industry standard technical qualifications, explicitly learns employability skills and works directly with employers. All students at Energy Coast UTC spend time each week working on employer projects or enrichment activities and undertakes work experience placements. Our industry partners who work on a range of projects alongside our students include the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, Sellafield Ltd, Morgan Sindall, the University of Cumbria, McMenon and the Royal Navy. Pastoral care is of paramount importance to us and, as a small college, we ensure that we support the well-being of all of our students and staff.

We have been recognised at both local and national level for our excellence in education. Our accolades include: ‘Best Industry Engagement’, ‘Best Teaching Assistant’, ‘Best Apprentice’ and ‘The Well Being Award’ at the Golden Apple Awards 2022, ‘Secondary School of the Year’ in 2021 and 2019 at the Golden Apple Awards, Silver award winners for ‘Secondary School of the Year’ and ‘Headteacher of the Year in a Secondary School’ in the Pearson National Teaching Awards, Gold award winners for ‘Teacher of the Year in a Secondary School’ in the Pearson National Teaching Awards and TES finalists for ‘Best New Teacher’ and ‘Teacher of the Year’. We support staff to excel in their teaching which has resulted in Energy Coast UTC being recognised by local universities as an excellent training centre for trainee teachers.
