Job overview

The role of Head of School at St Mary’s Catholic Voluntary Academy is a career defining opportunity to join a successful and ambitious school at the heart of the local community.

As part of the St Thérèse of Lisieux Catholic Multi Academy Trust, you’ll join a unique organisation made up of sixteen schools (two secondary and fourteen primary) with an inclusive vision that brings together over 4,300 pupils across Lincolnshire & Rutland through faith, discipleship and God’s love.

St Mary’s is a good school with just over 200 pupils and a growing number of EAL children, reflecting our increasingly diverse community.  Our mission statement ‘Every Child is a gift from God; gifts we nurture to fulfilment’ reflects our ethos and commitment to ensure all children, irrespective of background, reach their God-given potential through high quality Catholic education.

We have strengths in governance and pupil behaviour but are not complacent and recognise there is more to do.  Working in partnership with the Executive Headteacher who’ll offer guidance and support, you will provide strong leadership to enable sustainable improvements in the quality of provision we deliver - guiding all pupils to achieve exceptional outcomes, regardless of their starting point.  With the support of our committed governing body and the St Thérèse of Lisieux CMAT, you’ll have the opportunity to shape a curriculum that ensures all learners at St Mary’s have access to a truly outstanding Catholic education.

Whilst there is no fixed blueprint for where our new leader will come from, you will be a practising Catholic and bring credible senior school leadership experience.  What’s most important is that you share our ambition to ensure all children, irrespective of background or prior attainment, fulfil their potential through the provision of a high quality, inclusive and authentically Catholic education.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a committed team who are already delivering great results.  With your leadership we know we can be even better.

If you share our passion, drive and ambition, we’d love to hear from you.

For a confidential conversation or to arrange a visit to our wonderful school, call our recruitment team on 01904 567818 or visit https://stl-cmat.our-careers.co.uk

Closing date for applications is Wednesday 15th May 2019.

The St Thérèse of Lisieux Catholic Multi Academy Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and we expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  The successful candidate will undergo an enhanced DBS check, prior to employment.  There is a genuine occupational requirement for the successful candidate to be a practising Catholic. Please refer to the diocesan definition of practising Catholic.

About The Saint Mary's Catholic Voluntary Academy

St Mary’s is a loving, caring and friendly school. From the time children join us until the time they leave, the whole team at St Mary’s endeavour to do the very best to ensure our children are the best they can be.

We pride ourselves on having high expectations, in work and play, and all pupils are just as proud of being the very best they can be. Our pupils have exemplary behaviour and manners, and they are proud to tell visitors, ‘we respect and care for each other- we are a big family’.

We work very closely with parents to ensure that all children have the very best start to their school life. We love to celebrate successes and consider this to be the highlight of any week. We know that life is precious and that every second counts in a child’s development. This is central to our mission and always at the centre of what we do.

All of our children and their families are a vital part of the school community, together with staff, governors, and parishioners from St Mary’s Church

Our school is located in Grantham, a Georgian Market Town in Lincolnshire, close to the Nottinghamshire border, which has excellent transport links by road and rail.

We are currently rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted (April 2023):

“The school is a caring and happy environment. Pupils are welcomed each morning with a smile and a cheerful greeting from staff. Pupils know that the adults in school look after them well.”

St Mary’s is strongly committed to the Christian values of love and respect for each other and aims to teach the children to value Christian ideals, so that they become valuable members of society.

Our mission statement:

Christ is at the centre of St Mary’s as we strive to nurture and care for all our

Community members by encouraging them to Believe, Succeed and Soar within

God’s love, to achieve the very best that they can, in all areas”.

Our school is part of the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Multi-Academy Trust which brings together the 36 Catholic Primary and Secondary schools in Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire.  Our priority is to ensure the very best Catholic Education for all young people in our community, whatever their circumstances. We will achieve this together, through a strategic approach to sharing best practice, effective challenge and support from a central standards and performance team and opportunities for high quality Continuing Professional Development offered by the CMAT’s teaching school, The Nottingham Initial Teacher Training Hub.
