Job overview

Based in Chichester, working across West Sussex

Are you able to confidently add value, create energy and inspire your peers and partners in education to further develop the West Sussex family of education providers to continually raise standards?

Do you share our commitment to delivering our vision on improving educational outcomes in West Sussex by championing all our children and young people!

As the Head of Service you will report to the Director for Education & Skills and be a key member of the Education and Skills Leadership team. You will provide strategic leadership and operational excellence to raise educational standards and drive forward the changing relationship with schools and other education providers. You will set the standard for greater engagement with colleagues across the local authority to provide all children and young people in West Sussex with the best start in life; thus enabling them to be ready for school and ready for work.

You will work with key stakeholders, particularly Headteachers and Governors, to establish a clear and challenging vision for intervention which balances support and challenge and provide inspirational leadership of the School Improvement Service towards securing a high quality and sustainable service. A key priority will be driving system-wide change in the development of an inclusive education culture.

The role will require a considerable amount of travel across the county and is not restricted to set hours. There will be an expectation that the successful candidate will attend some evening meetings and may be asked to deputise for the director in certain circumstances alongside other senior leadership team members.
