We are looking for a proactive & innovative individual who will be responsible for leading and managing the School Improvement and Early Years Service in Education, working with schools, academies and early years providers in Portsmouth.

You will manage a revenue budget of approximately £1.5m and be responsible for approx. 45 FTEs staff in the following service areas:

  • School Improvement
  • The Virtual School
  • Governor Services
  • Early Years Advisory Teachers
  • Ethnic Minority Achievement Service
  • Every Child a Reader Service
  • Parenting Programme
  • Childcare Development
  • 2, 3 and 4 year old funding / Nursery Education Grant
  • Performance management of Children's Centres

An innovative dimension to this role will be to work with key stakeholders involved in school improvement to establish a schools-led collaborative programme / partnership for Portsmouth and to develop a range of solutions that encourage collaboration, support sector-led school improvement, commission and quality assure school support, embed shared values and maximise the use of the strengths and resources in the system, building on the historically strong relationship between the LA and schools, academies and post-16 providers.

You will have experience as a senior leader in schools, successful service leadership and management in school improvement and / or early years provision, as well as the ability to promote, lead and deliver strategies to secure value for money, continuous service improvement and the development of quality customer focused services.
