Job overview

The Governing Body, staff and pupils at Bricknell Primary School are seeking to appoint a Head of School to work closely with the Primary Executive Lead and existing Leadership Team to promote high quality teaching and learning within our happy and successful school.

The school is currently consulting stakeholders with a view to joining a local Multi-Academy Trust, which will contain a mixture of Primary and Secondary schools. Our current Headteacher has been appointed as the Executive Lead to support the Primary Schools who are joining this Trust. Therefore, we are looking for a Head of School to work closely with the Executive Lead to take a key role in further improving standards and fostering innovative practice at Bricknell to ensure the best possible learning outcomes for every pupil in our care.

Bricknell Primary School is a large primary academy with 630 pupils on roll plus a newly opened 52 place nursery. The school was judged to be outstanding by Ofsted in May 2015 but we remain committed to improving our provision to ensure all our children receive the best possible education. We are also a National Support School with a talented team of middle leaders and staff. Behaviour in our school is excellent and our children, who are happy and enthusiastic learners, relish the challenge that each new day brings.

This post represents a really exciting opportunity for someone with proven leadership skills who wishes to take their next step within a very strong and supportive professional network. The successful candidate will be a strong and knowledgeable primary practitioner with a proven track record in leading teaching and learning, securing excellent outcomes for pupils and building excellent relationships with pupils, parents and staff.

The Head of School will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the school and will be the first point of contact for parents and carers. They will be expected to lead on standards and the quality of teaching across the school. The role will be supported by two Assistant Heads who both have non-contact time in order to be able to support interventions, plan collaboratively with colleagues and to provide coaching to improve teaching and learning across the school. In addition, the Executive Lead will provide support and guidance with the role.

We are looking to appoint a candidate who:

  • has high expectations and is aspirational for each child to reach their potential by supporting the provision of rich and varied opportunities
  • is innovative, inspirational and able to motivate our staff and children ensuring they feel valued and supported
  • is committed to meeting the needs of each and every child, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities and those from disadvantaged backgrounds
  • can continue to build on our strong relationships with parents, local schools and the wider community
  • can drive forward existing strategies and shape the future direction of the school
  • has proven leadership, interpersonal and management skills
  • is committed to partnership working
  • is caring and compassionate

Visits to the school are positively encouraged. Please contact the school (01482 493208 / admin@bricknell.hull.sch.uk ) for further information and an application pack.

Closing Date for applications: 12:00 noon on Monday 14th November
