Job overview

Applications are welcomed from those seeking their first headship or from experienced Principals/Headteachers looking for a new challenge.

Outwood Academy Ormesby offers a truly comprehensive education, serving a diverse and vibrant community with over 900 students aged 11 to 16. We are seeking a Head of School who prioritises inclusion, having high expectations for all, and is committed to supporting disadvantaged communities.

Outwood Academy Ormesby is one of seven secondary schools in the Trust’s northern region, alongside our alternative provision independent school. The schools span a close geographical cluster that work collaboratively on all aspects of school improvement. Working together, we ensure the best possible educational experience for our young people, equipping them to impact positively on the broader community.

This role involves leading an exceptionally talented and committed team of staff, having a relentless focus on the quality of teaching and learning, ensuring every lesson delivers the highest standard of education and inspiring learners to develop a passion for knowledge and a love of learning. To lead this academy, you will need the skills to motivate and enthuse, coupled with the ability to model and coach at every level.

Academy leaders in our northern region are supported by the Regional Executive Principal and two executive leaders. Their drive to secure ongoing school improvement is undertaken through close working relationships and ongoing challenge and support. The Trust provides outstanding professional development opportunities, and the successful candidate will have access to one of the country’s largest school improvement teams and the opportunity to shape not only the educational provision in Middlesbrough but also across the northern region and the Trust.

This is a phenomenal opportunity for an exceptional professional to truly make their mark as a leader in education and transform the life chances of children in this community.

If you think this exciting opportunity is for you, we would love to hear from you. Informal conversations with Mark Hassack, Regional Executive Principal, are strongly encouraged and warmly welcomed. If you would like to arrange a telephone call or virtual meet, please contact Jo Lake, Executive Officer: j.lake@outwood.com

We are an 11-16 academy based in the large, north-east town of Middlesbrough.

The academy received a good judgement in their 2017 Ofsted inspection. However in July 2022 the academy was given a notice to improve judgement. Leadership has significantly changed and a comprehensive improvement plan has been implemented to secure sustainable long term change for the academy. It is an exciting time to join the academy’s committed team and join them on this important improvement journey.

Taking a holistic approach to education, valuing vocational, practical, creative, and academic qualities equally, we believe that learning should be both enjoyable and enriching. We are innovators with a knowledge-rich curriculum, designed to personalise learning for every student, helping them to reach their potential.

The Outwood Family of Schools pride ourselves on fully supporting colleagues within the Family both professionally and personally. We work hard to ensure we reduce workload on staff, allowing more time in the classroom to put our vision of students first, raising standards and transforming lives into practice.

As a founding Trust of the National Institute of Education (NIoT), we will actively invest in your future through working closely with the Outwood Institute of Education and NIoT to offer access to a wide range of CPD opportunities, with all teaching staff receiving a minimum of two hours of CPD each week.

We also offer a generous employment package with a whole host of staff benefits, including family friendly policies, enhanced occupational benefits available (such as maternity, adoption and parental leave) with no qualifying period, funded CPD for qualifications up to and including Masters level plus other exclusive benefits including a partnership with car leasing company, Synergy.

All academies within the Outwood Family have gained the IQM Inclusive Schools Award with 18 having Centre of Excellence status and one holding Flagship status.

If you share our vision, join our family.
