Broadening horizons, reaching for the moon!

Malcolm Arnold Preparatory School is a warm and welcoming free preparatory school in the heart of Northampton. We opened in September 2014 for reception pupils, and are located in a new, purpose-built building, located on the Malcolm Arnold Academy (MAA) campus. This all-through context enables exceptional opportunities to share best practice and build strong connections, while MAA’s facilities offer our pupils an exciting range of curricular and co-curricular opportunities in sports, the arts, languages and more.

We are proud to offer a world-class education for children aged 3-11, with early years provision. We embrace individuality and different viewpoints and are determined to get it right ‘for everyone’. Staff strive to excite and motivate our pupils through a rich and inspiring curriculum. We are committed to supporting each child to reach their full academic potential, but more than that, we want to enable our pupils to experience memorable and enchanting moments that will enrich their learning. Initiatives like the Malcolm Arnold Preparatory School Voices, our unique singing school programme, encourage our pupils to be themselves, be confident and enjoy every aspect of their school day.

Rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted in January 2017, we know that our pupils achieve strong outcomes during their time with us, and we continue to invest in school facilities, developing the learning offer for our pupils. As part of the David Ross Education Trust, we also have access to a range of enrichment opportunities across music, sport and the arts and resources that many schools outside the Trust are unable to offer.

Accountable to the Executive Principal and Trust for ensuring the educational success of the School, our new Head of School will be a confident and creative school leader, with a clear focus on teaching and learning, and will ensure that we make the most of the opportunities presented by our co-location with Malcolm Arnold Academy, and our exciting campus vision.

Your experience will include working with children from disadvantaged backgrounds, and you will have an impeccable track record as an excellent teacher. An in-depth knowledge and understanding of current educational priorities will be matched with a strong knowledge of the national curriculum for EYFS and KS1 & 2. Your high expectations will match our own, and you will have a strong commitment to continual improvement and staff development.

Broadening horizons and growing passions...

We are a new state-funded primary preparatory school, which opened in September 2014 for reception pupils. In September 2016 we moved into our brand new, purpose-built school building, which is located on the Malcolm Arnold Academy Campus. Our school is committed to ensuring that our children not only excel in the classroom, but also gain the skills and passions to enable them to be successful long into their futures.

We focus on positive behaviour management systems and promote the values we would like our children to embody through our MAPS Code of Conduct. Our code is simple and well-understood, even by Reception children:

  • Make kind choices
  • Aim high; seek new challenges
  • Persevere; always try your best
  • Show respect and good manners

Our school has strong links with the Diocese of Peterborough and is a Church of England school which is fully supportive of the Christian faith. However, our school values system transcends religion and we are fully inclusive of all faiths and none.
