Woodlands is a specialist school for pupils with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) difficulties. Some pupils have additional needs including learning difficulties, autism and a range of associated needs, leading to them presenting challenging behaviour. The number of pupils on roll has been increasing recently and the secondary 11-16 provision will cater for up to 56 boys and girls from across the whole of the county of Shropshire.

In addition to the secondary school Woodlands also has separate Key Stage 2 provision in the north and south of the county with up to 12 children on roll. Woodlands is also home to a fully traded Outreach Service, offering support and advice to schools across the county, and in some neighbouring Local Authorities, supporting learning, behaviour and ASC; IT support is also offered from within the service.

The Governors are seeking to appoint an experienced and well-qualified teaching professional to lead the secondary provision with a strong team ethos, and invite applications from highly motivated and enthusiastic professionals who:

• Can lead, inspire and motivate; fully empowering pupils and staff;
• is a good communicator and able to build upon a well-established, supportive partnerships with staff, parents and professional agencies who work closely with the school and its pupils;
• has a proven successful leadership experience, either in special or mainstream secondary provision;
• can cultivate a supportive and nurturing environment, promote successful teaching and learning be fully committed to meeting the diverse range of challenging needs of the pupils;
• can further extend the relationships with parents/carers to raise aspirations and post 16 outcomes for the pupils.

In return, the governors will:

• Offer you their full support to further develop and extend the success of pupils who attend Woodlands, including possible post 16 support or provision;
• provide you opportunity for supported CPD to enhance further career development;
• offer you the opportunity to be fully involved in the strategic development of Woodlands Centre in its entirety.
