Job overview

Morna International College is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced leader to take over from the current Head of School from September 2023, or as soon as possible after that date.

About the school:

Morna International College follows the British curriculum with an international focus, leading to International GCSE and ‘A’ level qualifications. The school offers a large range of optional subjects in the final years.

Morna is the only fully international school on the island of Ibiza and is currently in its 50th anniversary year.

Pupils come from over 20 different nationalities. The school has enjoyed steady growth over the last 15 years and the NOR is currently just over 600.

The school has a large site in a rural setting, in the centre of the beautiful island of Ibiza. It is well staffed (around 100 FTE) and well resourced. It has a strong middle and senior management structure, covering academic and pastoral roles, as well as excellent support staff such as a technical team and a school nurse.

One of the school’s strengths is the capability to meet the diverse educational needs of its intake. There are two SENCO’s and a large learning support team, covering all phases. There is also a scholarship scheme for gifted and talented pupils.

Profile of the new Head

The new leader will need to be able to recognise, and continue to consolidate, the school's many qualities and, at the same time, bring new insight in order to create further development and improvement targets.

Candidates should have a proven track record in school leadership, ideally having already been Head of an international school of a similar size and nature.

Preference will be given to applicants who can offer some or all of the following:

1) Experience in leadership roles in British international schools in Spain.

2) Experience in school inspection teams or other school evaluation processes.

3) Experience in recruiting staff and defining employment conditions, preferably within Spain.

4) Fluency, or a good working level, in spoken and written Spanish.

Application process:

Applicants should submit a full CV along with a letter of application outlining their experience, their vision of education and their suitability for this role. Please refer to the attached post description.

Please submit applications to the Head Teacher: head@micibiza.com

The school offers a very competitive salary package. Details of this will be discussed with shortlisted applications.

Application deadline 10th February 2023, but applications will be considered and followed up as soon as they are received.

Shortlisted applications will be contacted for a preliminary online interview after which they will be invited to visit the school.

About Morna International College

Morna International College is located in the middle of the island of Ibiza, a few minutes from the beautiful village of Santa Gertrudis. The college campus provides an excellent learning environment where children feel motivated, challenged, safe and well-cared for.

Our school covers the whole age range from 3 to 18 and we offer the British education system with a very international focus, leading to international GCSE and 'A' level qualifications. We have excellent teacher-pupil ratios and are able to offer suitably differentiated learning targets to meet the needs of all of our students. We are well resourced and make excellent use of modern technology.

We have students aged from 3 to 18 from over 20 nationalities. Our student population consists of around one third Spanish children, one third British children and one third international children. We have a strong pastoral system, based on close monitoring and plenty of rewards. This results in a happy and focussed environment in which our children respond really well to inspired teaching.

In recent years our students have progressed onto postgraduate studies in universities throughout the UK, and also in Spain, Germany, Holland, Switzerland and the USA.
