Job overview

TimePlan Education is recruiting for a Head of School on behalf of SET Saxmundham School. The Head of School role is a permanent post to start in September 2020.

Saxmundham School is part of the Seckford Education Trust, a thriving and growing trust which saw two primary schools join them in September 2019; there are also plans to open Specialist Units that will cater for students with Autism. The school was graded ‘Good’ by Ofsted during its most recent Ofsted inspection in February 2018.

SET Saxmundham School is a free school for 470 pupils that is dedicated to the development of a safe, vibrant, successful and student-centred place of learning. They believe that their young people are capable of truly fantastic things and expect them to strive to achieve their very best. Working with parents, carers and the local community, they look to provide a range of opportunities for students to enjoy their learning and excel. Students comment on the way lessons are delivered at Saxmundham and the strong relationships that exist in school between students and staff. They offer a traditional curriculum that enables students to flourish academically and lay the foundations for their successful progression into post-16 learning. The strong pastoral support system and wide range of enrichment activities help each and every student to develop and contribute positively to the local community. As an inclusive school they celebrate the successes of each and every student together as a community and have aspirations that everyone will make better than expected progress.

As the Head of School, you will have a clear focus on continuing to improve teaching and learning. You will have direct responsibility for GCSE outcomes, student recruitment and community engagement. You will be the public face for the school. The role is ideal for an aspiring Headteacher. If you have been an Assistant or Deputy Head or a Head of Upper School/Sixth Form, then you are encouraged to apply.

In return, the school will offer you:

  • A skilled, supportive and committed Trust Leadership Group.
  • A salary of £60,000 - £65,000, depending on experience.
  • A relocation package.
  • School phone and free school meals.
  • Values-led performance management.
  • Great progression routes across the Trust; an attitude of ‘If you invest in us, we will invest in you.’

To apply for this role, please email TimePlan on ben.mason@timeplan.net or phone Ben Mason directly on 020 8066 0711.

Welcome from Our School

Here at SET Saxmundham School we believe in each and every child.

We are an ambitious and yet small and caring school with big opportunities in mind for those who join us.

Our motto is ‘inspiring, enabling and celebrating each and every young person’. Striving for excellence underpins everything we do and we aim to give our students an appetite for excellence in all that they do, equipping them with a set of lifelong skills which will enable them to succeed. We want our students to enjoy their school life, and be inspired to be inquisitive in their lessons whilst providing each of them with an academic challenge that enables them to realise their potential. We offer a curriculum that enables them to flourish academically and lays foundations for successful progression into post-16 education, training or employment.

We strive to teach students that learning yields a multitude of rewards if it is approached with rigour and enthusiasm. This is cultivated by an approach to learning that is student-centred and set in a stimulating environment. As important as academic success is, our aim is to develop the whole person through a range of clubs and activities which enrich the daily experiences of our students. Added to this is our commitment to build a supportive community that encourages a sense of social responsibility and develops within students a desire to become global citizens. Full details on our curriculum and our enrichment activities are available on our website.

At the heart of our success will be a strong and positive partnership between parents/carers, students, teachers and wider friends of the school. Our ‘6Cs to Success’ underpin how we expect every member of our School community to approach learning and behaviour. To facilitate excellent communication, we encourage open dialogue between home and School. I hope this provides you with some insight into the life of our School and the founding Trust-wide principles from which we work; yet it cannot truly reflect all that we have to offer. If you like what you read do come and visit us. We look forward to offering you a warm welcome. In the meantime, I thank you for your interest in our School and I look forward to receiving your application.
