We are seeking a talented and inspirational Head of Science to lead the Science Department, who is dedicated to shaping a curriculum to further our students’ lifelong journey of curiosity, and to mentor our enthusiastic and high performing team of teachers. You will play a significant role in shaping the department to ensure we combine theoretical and practical learning, so that our students understand the significance of the subject at every stage of their lives.

We can offer you the opportunity to deliver an ambitious curriculum to students with enormous potential and lead a dedicated Science department that achieves exceptional outcomes from all year groups. We have developed a strong culture of collaboration and a vision of excellence, with opportunities to encourage our students to explore the world around them.

As Head of Science, you will be welcomed into an experienced team of professionals to:

·        Progress the Science department to even greater successes

·        Oversee and shape the curriculum’s delivery

·        Lead and mentor your team, enhancing their teaching practice with innovative methods and ensuring they have a clear vision

·        Manage the allocation of resources and budgets

·        Collaborate with other heads of departments over learning to achieve a consistent and integrated methodology

·        Be committed to the wider school community and development of students

·        Promote the understanding and belief that every student can be successful

The Bishop of Winchester Academy is a thriving Church of England school, recently recognised by Ofsted as prioritising ‘wider opportunities alongside achievement so that pupils “live life to the full.”’ (Ofsted 2023). Operating from recently refurbished facilities, our shared mission to improve the life chances of all of our students is at the very centre of our work.

We put the welfare of our staff at the heart of everything we do and can offer you:

·        Generous employer pension contribution at 28.6% basic salary from April 2024

·        Early Friday finish at 1:00pm

·        Career development with a bespoke CPD programme

·        Excellent newly refurbished teaching facilities with free onsite parking and good local public transport links

·        Employee Assistance Programme and Cycle to Work scheme

·        Close proximity to beaches and the Jurassic Coast to assist your work life balance

We would be delighted to take you on a tour of the school and give you the opportunity to meet the department and answer any questions you may have.
