Information about the school

A mixed 11-19 co-educational High School of 700 pupils serving the historic market town of West Malling and surrounding villages. The school is set in pleasant rural surroundings and has its own lake and extensive grounds.

West Malling is close to the county town of Maidstone and has excellent rail links to London and Ashford International (for the Continent).

In May 2015, Ofsted graded the overall effectiveness of the school as ‘good’ but cited many outstanding features, amongst them the conduct of pupils and the senior leadership. We are looking for staff who can contribute to our ambition to be ‘outstanding’ in every aspect.

The school was completely re-built in September 2007 and therefore has outstanding facilities. All teachers have their own laptops and pupils have good access to ICT and other modern equipment which is well connected across the site.

We offer excellent support with every new member of staff having access to a trained coach. We have an extensive, bespoke, training programme for all staff which is relevant to the experience and future aspirations of each staff member.

The Malling School is a designated specialist college in Science and Sport in recognition of the innovative approach to teaching, excellent results and the superb facilities. These include a high specification Sports Science and Fitness facility which is open to staff at no charge. The school’s unique setting, with a well-stocked lake and surrounding habitats, is ideal for practical investigations and ecology projects.

The Malling School is part of a Hard Federation with The Holmesdale School in Snodland and is also part of a Teaching Schools Alliance (Mid Kent Learning Alliance), both of which provide additional opportunities to staff.

We encourage potential applicants to view our website or to tour the school to get a better feel for our school prior to application.

This is an exciting time to be joining the staff of The Malling School.

Our school is increasingly becoming the first choice school for parents. As a result we are currently oversubscribed. We have robust behavioural systems and Developmental Learning Walks, rather than formal observations. All of which allow a teacher to flourish and do what they do best – teach!

We provide a very supportive environment in which staff can further develop their skills and we ensure every new member of staff has access to a trained coach. With close teams of teachers and non-teachers working together we take a collaborative approach to school improvement and have a shared aim of providing the very best education for our pupils.
