Smart Teachers is currently recruiting a dynamic Head of Science to work with Key Stages 2 and 3 for an independent prep school in Richmond (TW9) from September 2016. The school is very community oriented and has developed a strong ethos of guiding students on both a pastoral and academic level, supporting their aim for every pupil to have an embedded love of learning. Leading the department, you will have the ability to teach Science up to Year 8 and preferably have experience with the 13+ Common Entrance.

About the Role:

  • Head of the Science Department teaching Key Stages 2 and 3
  • Manage the implementation of the Science curriculum
  • Teacher and form tutor to students from Years 3 to 8
  • Develop and update schemes of work in line with the National Curriculum
  • Report to the Senior Management Team, the Deputy Headmaster and the Headmaster
  • Plan and run student trips, enrichment programmes and a weekly afterschool club
  • Start date September 2016
  • Competitive salary up £40,000 (dependent on experience)

In order to be considered for this role, you will need to meet the following criteria:

  • Hold a Bachelor of Education / PGCE / or equivalent teaching degree
  • Have attended middle management professional development courses (desirable)
  • Have proven recent experience teaching in a UK-based classroom
  • Have previous experience in assessment data and utilising data to raise standards
  • Have a strong understanding of the Science National Curriculum and recent developments
  • Previous teaching experience in the independent sector is desirable
  • Be eligible to work in the UK (must have valid visa)
  • Possess recent classroom-based references and valid DBS/police checks
