Uppingham School has the highest ambitions for Science education. We have built a world-class, award-winning Science Centre and want it to be the place to which young scientists from across the country, as well as their teachers, are drawn to learn, develop and grow. We are now looking for an outstanding Head of Science, capable of inspiring and leading pupils and staff, who has the vision and energy to create a national profile for Uppingham Science.
As Head of Science, you will take responsibility for the strategic leadership, development and realisation of Science teaching at Uppingham. Through guiding and supporting the heads of Physics, Chemistry and Biology and keeping abreast of educational developments, you will ensure Uppingham’s Science teaching is creative and inspirational.
The successful candidate will be a dynamic character with unimpeachable subject knowledge and exemplary classroom skills, who will not settle for less than excellence.

Uppingham School is a mixed, Church of England independent secondary school with sixth form and boarding, located in Leicestershire. The secondary school, situated in Uppingham has approximately 791 students on record.
Uppingham School was founded in 1584, originally as a school for boys. In 1975 girls were admitted, and it became fully co-educational as of 2001. The majority of students attending the secondary school are boarders.

Work is generally presented neatly and pupils’ note-taking is effective. They develop good numeracy skills and their capacity to think critically is notable. Creative abilities are well developed and their exploration of ideas is particularly marked in their enrichment activities. Pupils’ study habits are good. In the lessons observed, pupils worked very well with each other, and also worked well independently. They enjoy their work and this stems in part from the good-natured atmosphere in lessons.
