‘Education for Life, Learning to Excel’

Ridgeway Middle School is located in the village of Astwood Bank, Redditch on the Redditch to Evesham Road.  The school stands in very pleasant grounds surrounded by fields to the South and West.  Redditch Town Centre is about five miles North of the village.

Ridgeway is a well-established co-educational school attended by children between the ages of 9 and 13, most of who live within the areas embraced by Astwood Bank, Feckenham and Crabbs Cross.  However, many parents from outside the catchment area choose Ridgeway as the middle school for their child.

Ridgeway is organised in four year groups (Years 5 to 8), which are currently led by a Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3 Manager who is responsible to the Headteacher for pupil progress and well-being and who leads a Key Stage team of teachers.  Children are mostly taught in mixed ability groups though ability based setting is arranged in English and Mathematics throughout the school and in French at Key Stage 3.

The school benefits from specialist teaching rooms; the Science Laboratory, Study Centre, Design and Technology Room, Year 5 teaching suite and a designated Special Educational Needs room.  There is a suite of music and practise rooms in addition to an ICT Suite.  The school is well resourced with computers including lap-tops and interactive whiteboards in all teaching rooms.

The school has achieved the Sportsmark and ‘Green Flag’ Eco Schools Award and the Arts Mark Silver Award.

The present number of pupils on roll is 415 with a teaching staff of 23, that includes an Assistant Headteacher, a Deputy Headteacher and the Headteacher.  Teaching Assistants work across the four years supporting statemented pupils and working as Learning Support Assistants in the four year groups, a Study Centre Manager, a Laboratory Assistant and an ICT and Reprographics Technician.  We currently have four Administrative and Clerical Staff in addition to Cleaning Staff and a Site Manager.  The school cafeteria is managed by Alliance in Partnership who provide an extensive range of healthy eating tuck shop items, hot and cold meals and drinks at break and lunch time.

The Governors and Staff of the school believe that Middle school education should offer a wide a range of experience as is possible and major emphasis should be placed on encouraging achievement and success in all areas of school life and success and personal growth for each individual child.
