Job overview

Thank you for your interest in joining GES as Head of Secondary History. History is a leading department in the secondary school due to the modern and global curriculum as well as exceptional teaching and outstanding outcomes. All of our students have to study History and Geography to iGCSE level and A level History is one of the post popular A level courses.

We are looking for an outstanding teacher with at least three years of experience (see visa requirements below) to lead the department moving forwards. You will always deliver exceptional GCSE and A level outcomes and have a global view of history - we are an English school but our global students deserve a global history education.

We welcome applications from experienced international teachers with significant experience of the UK curriculum. If you are a UK or non EU passport holder without an existing right to work in Switzerland, sadly we will not be able to get you a work permit and so you should not apply. 

We require the successful candidate to start on 15th August 2023


PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential Experience 

  • Significant experience of teaching History at Key Stages 3, 4 and 5. Please include evident of excellent examination results at GCSE and A level in your application form  
  • Knowledge of the English National Curriculum, GCSE and A Level History and how to apply it to a diverse and international context.  
  • An enthusiastic and creative approach to teaching, which inspires pupils and enables learning to be engaging and relevant  
  • Commitment to an interconnected curriculum and to working with colleagues across a range of disciplines  
  • Commitment to helping pupils to develop a broad range of skills and attributes  
  • The ability to communicate effectively with pupils, colleagues and parents and to work as part of a collaborative team  
  • An interest in education beyond the classroom and across the age range  
  • Flexibility, a sense of humour, and a willingness to take part in all aspects of school life, including tournaments trips, projects, special events and extracurricular clubs


Essential Qualifications 

  • Qualified teacher status 
  • At least 3 years of successful teaching
  • The right to work in Switzerland or an EU passport holder


Desirable   

  • Good IT skills 
  • The ability to teach another subject at A level such as politics or economics
