Job overview

Are you an inspiring, inclusive leader looking for a SEND leadership position in an ‘Outstanding’ school?

Glyn School is seeking to appoint an experienced and dynamic Head of SEND to lead and manage the SEND provision across Glyn. You will guide and motivate a highly successful and talented team of SEND practitioners and Inclusion team who are committed to providing high quality teaching and learning in every lesson and for every student.

Glyn is an ‘Outstanding’ school; to be exceptional is for our students to leave not only with the grades necessary to pursue their goals, but also with the life-skills they need to thrive and contribute to the global community. The successful applicant will be a part of Glyn School’s Extended Leadership and Management Team (ELMT) and will be central to the development and implementation of successful teaching and learning strategies for our SEN students to ensure the best outcomes.

We are interested in hearing from all candidates, no matter what point in your career you are currently at and welcome flexible working arrangements.

SEND at Glyn:

At Glyn, senior and middle leaders are strong advocates of inclusive practice, in conjunction with our SENCO. We recognise that the quality of teaching within the classroom has the greatest influence over student’s progress and we therefore invest in training to ensure that our classrooms are an inclusive place to be. We adopt a graduated approach to meeting the needs of all students through quality first teaching and our staff make reasonable adjustment to help include all students, not just those with SEND needs. We offer our SEND practitioners unprecedented support to hone their craft and ensure that their personal learning, and by extension, our students’ personal learning is an inspiring journey.

At Glyn School, there is a strong focus on high aspirations and on improving outcomes for our SEND students. We aim to ensure that there is a greater choice and control for young people, parents and carers over the support provided to students with SEN needs. Currently 16% of Glyn students have SEND needs across a broad spectrum. To support our students, we have a team of 15 SEND practitioners, offering the following kinds of interventions.

  • LEXIA
  • Friendship Engineers Club
  • Fresh Start Phonics
  • Social Skills Group

This is an exciting time to join Glyn as a forward-thinking Head of SEND, who can inspire and move the faculty from ‘Outstanding’ to ‘Exceptional’.

What other team members say about their careers at Glyn:

“I started at Glyn as an NQT in English, soon discovered my passion for the pastoral side of the profession and stepped into an Assistant Head of House position. Following this, I became the Head of House at Glyn, one of the most central and exhilarating roles at Glyn (in my opinion!). At the start of this academic year, I have stepped into a Head of Faculty role - I am thoroughly enjoying the new and exciting prospect, once again learning and being introduced to a new facet of education which I am able to do as a professional at Glyn”.

“I joined Glyn School as the Head of History and Politics in September 2015. My reasons for joining Glyn were to be part of an outstanding school, which was also a Teaching School”.

“Glyn have been incredibly supportive and invested heavily in my training to ensure I am the best possible leader in education I can be. It never fails to amaze me how motivated all staff are to improve, and how committed leaders are to ensure all staff meet their potential”.

The successful candidate will need to:

  • Be well trained, with a NASENCO award or be willing to work towards it.
  • An experienced SENCO who can advocate for children and young people with SEND needs.
  • Have excellent communication and leadership skills, with proven experience liaising with parents, carers, health and social care professionals and external agencies.
  • Be an outstanding classroom practitioner.
  • Have a proven track record in achieving excellent student progress for SEND students.

We can offer you: (please do review our Glyn Staff Welfare document that is included in this advert).

  • An environment where the focus is on high quality teaching.
  • An environment where senior and middle leaders offer exceptional support for and emphasize staff well-being.
  • The opportunity to develop your teaching and leadership career through our tailored CPD programme.
  • A culture of coaching with regular career development meetings offered with the Headteacher.
  • An opportunity to work collaboratively with leaders across the wider GLF MAT.
