Job overview

Head of Senior School (100% FTE)

A new position in our school, we are looking for an inspiring, knowledgeable and supportive teaching Head of Senior School. This role forms part of a newly formed Senior Leadership Team (SLT) at ISR.  We are looking for applications from those eager to make a long term commitment to leading and developing the ISR Senior School and advancing the vision and mission of our growing school. We are a community International Baccalaureate (IB) Continuum school in a beautiful region of Switzerland.

As a ‘small and mighty’ not-for-profit international school, we offer a supportive environment and are looking for leaders and teachers that are driven to contribute to our thriving community of 150 students and 39 staff. We are an inclusive school with a focus on academic excellence. In 2021, our mean average IB Diploma score was 36, the school’s best ever result. We are ranked in the top 10 IB schools in Switzerland.

We are currently half form entry (an average of 10 students per grade) and expect to grow to single form entry (an average of 20 students per grade) by 2030.  This is a teaching Head of School role.  In 2022-2023 the teaching proportion will be around 10-13 40-minute periods per week.  As the school grows this proportion will decrease.

We will open a new environmentally conscious school campus in 2023. Our teachers are making a significant contribution to the design and development of this project; and you could too! It is an exciting time to be at ISR.

We are looking for someone who will

  • be a qualified teacher (with qualified teacher status, or internationally recognised equivalent) with, as a minimum, a bachelor’s degree
  • Have at least 3 to 5 years’ experience as an international school leader
  • Provide professional leadership that reflects the vision and values of our school
  • Have the skills, knowledge and expertise to inspire and promote the highest quality of IB teaching and learning
  • Model best practice, with the knowledge, skills and expertise to develop and build on effective systems
  • Be a passionate evidence-informed leader with a proven track record, who will lead the school in partnership with the leadership team, staff, students and wider community
  • Have a passion for teaching and learning where every student is valued and succeeds

We can offer you

  •  Happy, engaged and enthusiastic children who enjoy learning
  • A committed, hardworking and supportive team in the school
  • Support for your wellbeing to ensure your success as a leader
  • Central services for finance, HR, estates and IT to enable school leaders to focus on teaching and learning
  • An excellent salary and package
  • An opportunity to live and work in an area of outstanding beauty
  • An opportunity to impact the future design and development of our school

We are an internationally minded and inclusive school. We welcome applications from all backgrounds. We also welcome and support applicants with children.
