Visiting Teacher - Head of Singing (Classical)

This role is offered on a casual basis working 1 day per week (Mondays) in the first instance. Tes is currently supporting a friendly and supportive independent school, based in Waltham Forest. The school is looking to add a Visiting Head of Singing to its progressive and supportive Music provision ideally starting in October 2021.

“We seek an inspirational and suitably well qualified Visiting Teacher for the role of Head of Singing (Classical) from October 2021. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a well-established and thriving Music Department with a full co-curricular music programme. Choral music at Forest is strong and includes a full SATB Chapel Choir, Boys’ and Girls’ upper voice choirs, a Year 7 Choir, and Close Harmony group.  There is busy schedule of concerts and services in addition to the annual House Music, and Solo Singing Competitions. The role currently offers one full day of teaching (Mondays), with plenty of scope to increase this, the direction vocal ensembles, and choral coaching.  The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic and dynamic team-player with a desire to promote and develop singing in the school context.

There are around 40 visiting music staff at Forest School teaching a wide range of orchestral, keyboard and band instruments as well as voice. Pupils elect to take weekly lessons in either 20 or 40 minute units and all music pupils are involved in some form of ensemble music-making as part of their musical and social development. Music at the school is a highly successful and important part of the experience of pupils, all of whom study music in the classroom to Year 8 and many of whom elect to continue with classroom music all the way through to A Level, a number then going on to study Music as a tertiary subject at Oxbridge and Conservatoire level. ”

The school is offering:

• A super supportive and highly visible SLT team and Headteacher;

• progression support throughout the school and wider group

• the chance to take on further responsibility such as TLR or Leadership roles in the future.

The school expects:

• a relevant Music Degree or a related subject

• experience of delivering Music tuition and vocal classes pushing and engaging learners to progress within the subject

• a love and passion for education.
