The Trustees and Governors wish to appoint a Head of Sixth Form to grow the capacity of the Senior Leadership Team. You will play a significant role in the development and leadership of both schools and in time, lead one of the Trust’s schools.

If you are currently running a sixth form in an outstanding school or college, either within the state or independent sectors, we are keen to hear from you.

If successful, you will join an experienced, forward thinking leadership team and work with professional and dedicated colleagues, who are committed to giving all young people an opportunity to maximise their potential.

You will share our commitment of an inclusive and broad curriculum for all, ensuring students are engaged, motivated and take pride in their achievements. We aspire to provide the most appropriate pathway experience for all our students, to ensure that they enjoy, achieve and secure the best possible post-sixth form destinations. Our destinations are mostly Russell Group Universities but a growing number of our students, with our support, are moving on to degree apprenticeships with leading organisations, such as GCHQ, JP Morgan, Unilever and Dyson Industries. To secure these lucrative destinations we ensure our students are constantly demonstrating professional practices and values. This is modelled through every interaction with our team, stakeholders and industry partners.

Liverpool Life Sciences UTC and The Studio School – part of Northern Schools Trust - are both based in the CUC building (co-located) and our Sixth Form is one of the largest in the City. We have a range of state-of-the-art facilities, including art and design suites, three industry specified science labs, a high-spec programming studio and many fantastic learning spaces. We mix outstanding academic education with specialist vocational qualifications; world class learning facilities with real life workplace experiences and extra-curricular opportunities to learn, grow and flourish.

Our specialisms and sector focused qualifications provide the progressive relationship between education and industry. Students are encouraged to take a core curriculum of GCSEs and/or A Levels, plus a range of sector focused qualifications. Business partners help to shape the curriculum by defining their skills requirements and providing projects, masterclasses and training that meets their needs.

We are committed to providing the very best educational environment and professional development programmes for all our staff through regular dedicated departmental time, whole school and Cross Trust CPD, as well as nationally recognised accredited programmes. As a member of the Northern Schools Trust we offer fantastic opportunities for staff to develop their careers within the context of a group of exceptional schools.

There’s a very competitive salary package on offer, a commitment to funding any further personal development or research you might wish to undertake, along with the potential for flexible working.

If you think you can genuinely add to our team and introduce us to new ideas and partners, then we’d like to meet you, either before or after you apply.

This Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Owing to new KCSIE changes for 2022, HR will undertake a public online search of all shortlisted candidates.

The Life Sciences UTC is a high performing, non-selective specialist Science and Healthcare College for students aged 14-19. As the first of its kind in the UK, we have demonstrated that it is possible for education to work hand in hand with industry and higher education to ensure life changing opportunities for students.  As we go into our 5th year, we are now one of the biggest local sixth form providers in the Liverpool City Region.

We have secured a good Ofsted, with Outstanding for our behaviour, welfare and personal development. Our results are improving. We are making solid progress with a comprehensive intake of students and are pushing harder for ever better results. Most importantly, we ensure decisions we make about the learning programmes for our students are entirely driven by their future career plans and we do everything possible to support them to achieve their goals. The school has an economically diverse student intake, a fact reflective of the local community, and exists on a newly-renovated and updated site with a wide range of modern teaching and recreational facilities.

Values and Vision

As a University Technical College, Liverpool Life Sciences UTC has a strong focus on preparing students for careers in a small number of specific industries. To this end, the school works closely with its primary sponsor as well as a number of external healthcare and technology companies including Unilever, Novartis and a local NHS trust. The curriculum at the college has extensive options for both vocational and academic study, with older students having a range of BTECs and A-levels to choose from.

Ofsted

“Most teachers have very good subject knowledge and a firm understanding of the courses they are delivering. They plan effective lessons to engage most pupils in their care. Many teachers have a passion for their subject which is communicated strongly to pupils in their care. All teachers have access to good quality professional development. There is a continued focus on improving the mastery of teaching skills.”
