Head of Sixth Form

We have an excellent opportunity for an inspirational and enthusiastic Head of 6th form, with maths specialism, to join our friendly and forward-thinking team at Greater Peterborough UTC from September 2024. The ability to teach maths, at KS3,4 and 5 is desirable and applicants are requested to include their full experiences of teaching in their supporting statement.

GPUTC 6th form is embarking on an exciting journey. In 2024 we are introducing a T’ level in Engineering and continuing the offer of a full suite of STEM related A ‘levels including computing and art. The 6th form has a capacity of approximately 140 students: 75 year 12 and 65 year 13 and is located on the top floor of our state-of-the-art building. The total capacity of GPUTC is 520 students and so will always remain a small school with a dedicated 6th form.

We are seeking a leader who will inspire the ‘workforce of tomorrow’, support student progression to university & apprenticeships and develop a ‘rich’ place of study for all young people.

We are offering a competitive TLR for this position and would be open to discussions on funded NPQ progression and other CPD opportunities.    

The successful applicant will not only lead the 6th form but also work within a small team of specialists teaching maths at key stages 3, 4 and potentially KS5. There may also be the opportunity, depending on experience, to teach maths in Engineering.

The successful candidate will also have the opportunity of working with the Meridian Trust specialist Director of Maths who leads up a supportive, collaborative and innovative subject specialist curriculum team across all of the Trust’s 15 secondary and special schools. Meridian Trust also has a dedicated Director of 6th form who can support all aspects of 6th form development.

• Play an active role in the maintenance of exceptional student behaviour.
• Deliver high quality teaching and pastoral support to all students.

The ideal candidate will be/have:

• An excellent classroom practitioner with outstanding subject knowledge in mathematics. 
• Able to teach pupils across key stages 3, 4 and potentially 5. 
• Evidence continuing professional development and particularly around the significant leadership of projects/departments/subjects. 
• Qualified Teacher Status and a degree in their specialist subject. 
• An excellent understanding and commitment to teaching standards, with the ability to provide stimulating and engaging learning experiences
• Able to foster, promote, and maintain good relationships
• An excellent communicator and team player
• A creative thinker, with a positive and enthusiastic approach to work
