Freshsteps Independent School is an OFSTED graded ‘outstanding’ independent alternative provision. The school currently caters for pupils aged 5-16 years who have an EHCP with primary need of SEMH. Our school is expanding and opening its sixth form hub for our SEMH learners in September 2022. We have an exciting new opportunity for a Head of Sixth Form. 

Our sixth form learning spaces have been designed to mimic real life working environments, meaning our sixth form buildings offer state of the art facilities for our learners. 

As Head of Sixth Form you will be the “figurehead” for the Sixth Form. You will set the tone  for these year groups and oversee the pastoral and academic wellbeing of the Sixth Form. You will be responsible for overseeing the day to day running of the Sixth Form Centre with support from the Sixth Form Centre Tutors as well as promoting the Sixth Form at FreshSteps. In doing so, you will ensure that there is an excellent work ethic which will enable the students to achieve their full potential whilst ensuring that the whole school aims are met and that the FreshSteps sixth form experience is valued and appreciated by the students. You will be mindful of the health and wellness of all Sixth students and have an overview of each individual’s needs. You will be a member of the Senior Management Team and will report directly to, and meet with, the Headteacher regularly. 

Your duties will include: 

  • To ensure standards of behaviour are high and the contribution of the Sixth Form to the whole School is recognised and appreciated 
  • To attend/visit school, career evenings and other publicity events to promote the FreshSteps Sixth Form 
  • Lead on the production of all promotional literature relating to the Sixth Form 
  • Lead on maintaining the Sixth Form section of the website 
  • To lead on the New Students Information Booklet for the Sixth Form 
  • To work with Heads of Year in promoting the Sixth Form within and beyond the School 
  • To oversee arrangements for Supervised Study 
  • To work with tutors in managing and preparing references for university, apprenticeships or work applications 
  • Co-ordinate the UCAS process, communicating effectively with all stakeholders at appropriate times 
  • Organise ad hoc Sixth Form taster days and induction days 
  • To organise Sixth Form Functions such as Leavers’ Ball, Leavers’ Day, Sixth Form end of year photos, Reunions and assist with Careers Conventions 
  • Attend regular Sixth Form ‘Care Meetings’ and create and update the relevant care plans. This includes communicating information to relevant parties  
  • Organise the Higher Education Information Evening 
  • Organise the Sixth Form Information Evening 
  • Organise and Chair the Sixth Form Hub weekly meetings 
  • Seek ways of developing the leadership opportunities available to the Sixth Form, to include peer mentoring 
  • Organise the timetable for sixth form classes and the rota for the tutors’ Sixth Form Hub Duties
