Chase Grammar is seeking to appoint an exceptional candidate to the post of Head of Sixth Form at this very exciting time in the school’s development. The Head of Sixth Form will take responsibility for the day-to-day leadership of students on Pre-A Level, A Level and University Foundation Courses, the preparation of students for university applications, the Sixth Form Tutors and Sixth Form enrichment programme. The Head of Sixth Form will inspire excellence inside and outside the classroom and will teach an academic subject to A Level.

The successful candidate will be keen to lead in all areas of quality assurance, policy development, curriculum planning and monitoring standards. Under the direction of the Principal and Vice Principal, the successful candidate will:

  • Be in harmony with Chase’s aims and ethos and strengthen the reputation and success of thee school
  • Uphold and develop the school’s Christian character and ethos Share in the responsibility for the safeguarding and overall pastoral care of students
  • Attend such training courses as necessary to the role and provide leadership and training for other staff
  • Proactively manage staff and resources
  • Monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching, learning, achievement, pastoral care and enrichment opportunities
  • Validate courses offered by the school in partnership with other colleges
  • Teach an academic subject to A Level on a partial timetable
  • Contribute to the marketing, communication and admission of students into the Sixth Form
  • Assist in the preparation of the school for ISI and Ofsted inspections
  • Provide reports and attend regular meetings with Senior Leaders, the Advisory Committee and Directors as required by the Principal
  • Organise and facilitate regular meetings with student, staff and parents to monitor and report on the progress of students
  • Be proactive in suggesting and developing new initiatives and opportunities for staff and students
  • Contribute to the school’s professional development and appraisal systems
  • Have the desire to see every student and member of staff fulfil his or her potential
  • Provide vision and inspiration for the future development of the school

The ideal candidate will have the following profile:

  • Educated to degree level with a teaching qualification and experience
  • Evidence of relevant and substantial further professional development
  • Permitted to work in the UK
  • Management experience in a highly achieving school
  • Successful management of change with clear benefits to students
  • Evidence of conducting performance reviews, creating and maintaining rigorous systems and supporting staff
  • Familiarity with the education of international students and best practice in a boarding environment
  • A thorough understanding of what outstanding teaching and learning looks like, how to diagnose areas for development and deliver coaching and mentoring to improve it
  • Interpreting and using data to inform own teaching and that of wider teams
  • Unwavering attention to detail, mental agility and organisational skills
  • Commitment to professional development of oneself and others
  • Ability to quickly create effective rapport and a constructive relationship with students and adults
  • A leadership style that inspires confidence and collegiality
  • Genuine passion and belief in the potential of every student
  • Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English and a high level of IT literacy
  • An active and effective listener, able to inspire confidence and provide support and confidentiality
  • Kind, honest, approachable, resilient, with an excellent sense of humour and integrity
  • A love of learning for its own sake

Chase Grammar School is an independent school in the heart of Cannock, close to the beautiful Staffordshire countryside of Cannock Chase. Buildings are largely modern and well designed, including a sizeable Sports Hall. There are 27 acres of playing fields on a separate site. We pride ourselves on the family atmosphere at the school; classes are small, and relationships between staff, students and parents are excellent. The school is in a period of growth, and has much further potential. Chase Grammar School has approximately 320 students from 2-18, including a well-respected International Study Centre. The School’s boarding houses are home to about 120 students.
