About our Group

Broadlands Hall is an independent, specialist school, for 21 boys aged 11-19 years who are on the autistic spectrum and who have associated learning difficulties, some with EBD.  Established in 2004, the School is purpose-built and sits on a beautiful 6-acre site in the Suffolk countryside near to Haverhill and just 25 minutes from Cambridge.  The School is well-resourced, with committed staff and significant outcomes for the pupils.  The School accommodation is currently being extended allowing us to accept additional day pupils.

The majority of our current pupils are in residential care for between 39-52 weeks a year and they are placed by Local Authorities throughout the country in our 3 children’s homes in the local area.  Most of the young people are taught on a ratio of 1:1 and some are 2:1.

The School is fully supported by Head Office who work with the Head in recruitment, Health and Safety, transport and finance.

The Person we are looking for:

Our current Head has guided the School to very high standards over the last two years and is leaving now to move north to be nearer  family and friends.  The School is currently graded Good with Outstanding features by Ofsted.  His successor will be an experienced Head or Deputy Head who is currently working in a similar field.  You will have excellent administrative skills and an in-depth knowledge of Ofsted requirements.  You will be able to manage people well and work closely with those around you.  You will be prepared, and able, to deal effectively with some challenging pupils and willing to ‘go the extra mile’ with them.  You will lead your staff team by example and link in with the Managers of our Homes, the Responsible Individual and Registered Provider  in an effective and professional way.

Benefits

Conditions are commensurate with us wanting to attract the very best candidates.  Salary will be in the range of £50 – 65K dependent upon skills and experience, with free School fees for children aged between 6 months and 13 years at the local Independent prep school (Barnardiston Hall Preparatory School) some 2 miles away (worth up to £14K per annum, per child).  Free accommodation is available for a single applicant.  The School operates the Teacher Superannuation Scheme.

Application Procedure

The Broadlands Hall Group is committed to the safeguarding of children and the successful candidate will be required to apply for an Enhanced DBS and references will be sought from previous employers.  All applications must be made on the official Application Form which can be downloaded below.  Candidates are warmly invited to visit the School prior to applying for the post and applications for this should be made directly to Mrs Gundersen at Barnardiston Hall on 01440 786316.  You may also telephone the Principal for an informal discussion about the post by emailing Mrs Gundersen on l.gundersen@bhps-staff.co.uk giving your name, telephone number and suitable times when you are available to take a call.

Early applications are encouraged as these will be looked at upon receipt.
