Secondary Leadership Position

Head of Sport

The Kuala Lumpur Alice Smith School (KLASS) is fully accredited as a British School Overseas by the Department for Education in London, receiving an ‘Excellent’ grade from its recent inspection. Our school has an established reputation for excellence, and as a not-for-profit educational foundation, all resources are focused on the development and well-being of students. Located on two sites in Kuala Lumpur with excellent facilities, it has a total student population of approximately 1,600 and caters for the full age range from 3 to 18 years.

A KLASS teacher is an inspiring, innovative, high achieving professional with a strong track record of teaching success, possessing drive, energy and enthusiasm in abundance. Our teachers are confident, caring, helpful and supportive of students, colleagues and parents. They have the ability and determination to attain and maintain very high educational standards, based on action research and professional reading. They have the capacity and dedication to keep students at the centre of all they do, raising students’ standards of attainment and the breadth and scope of students’ achievement to the very highest levels internationally. They are highly computer literate and instinctively use a broad range of learning technologies to impact on learning and teaching.

A KLASS Head of Sport is an effective leader, teacher and manager who challenges and supports all staff and students to do their best through:

  • Inspiring trust and confidence
  • Building team commitment with colleagues and students
  • Engaging and motivating students
  • Positive action to improve the quality of students’ learning
  • Effective communication both within and outside of school
  • Delegation and empowerment

We have recently significantly expanded our sports facilities and we are delighted to have such world-class facilities for our students and wider community. They include an IAAF certified track, an Olympic size outdoor swimming pool, tennis courts, a small water based astroturf, two rugby/football fields, two large sports halls, a multi-purpose indoor space, a climbing/bouldering wall, a dance studio and a number of smaller gym spaces allowing for CrossFit, spinning and weight training sessions.

We are seeking an exceptional leader who has the vision, energy and drive to further develop our inclusive sporting provision. The candidate will be expected to review our current sporting programmes and identify areas for further development. The candidate will also be an experienced teacher of Physical Education across the secondary age range, with both GCSE and A Level experience.

The Head of Sport will report to the Director of Sport, and will work as part of a thriving secondary faculty and cross-campus team.

Candidates should also be committed to supporting an extensive extra-curricular programme which requires attending a number of weekend events both within Kuala Lumpur and overseas. Candidates will need to have the ability to coach in one or more of the following sports: basketball, volleyball, netball, football, rugby, athletics, badminton, gymnastics, tennis and hockey.

Please address all of these aspects in your supporting statement which should be considered a letter of application. In addition, please ensure that your online application and supporting statement clearly show how you meet the job description and person specification for this role at Alice Smith. Please also upload a photo in PDF form in the supporting evidence section at the end of the application form. To be considered for this role, please fully complete all sections of the application form.

The KLASS benefits package includes a highly competitive salary, a generous contribution towards housing, excellent medical insurance, contract renewal incentives, relocation flights and allowances and free school places for dependent children.
