Headington is a vibrant and welcoming school set in 23 acres on the outskirts of Oxford. Headington has an exciting Music Department with a dedicated team of specialist Instrumental Tutors housed in a superb Music School.    

We are seeking an experienced Head of Strings to teach girls throughout the School and across a wide ability spectrum. The post will range from teaching new starters right through to Diploma level students (most recently ATCL and LTCL). The role also includes conducting the String Orchestra and Stringendo (junior strings) and assisting with the Symphony Orchestra and Sinfonietta (junior orchestra). You will be responsible for overseeing all string teachers within the department. There is also the opportunity to be involved in other ensembles as appropriate. As this role has an option to include the Prep School, the chosen candidate will need to be comfortable with recruiting younger beginners, inspire students to take up the violin and viola and offer ensembles for absolute beginners.  

You will possess the following attributes: 

  • You will be an outstanding musician 
  • Enthusiasm for the instrument and learning processes 
  • Dedication to high standards in both teaching and learning  
  • A willingness to look beyond traditional repertoire and methods of teaching 
  • Excellent communication skills and an ability to respond appropriately to the varied needs of the girls 
  • Adaptability to fit teaching hours around pupil availability 
  • Encouragement in supporting girls in school concerts, local competitions etc
