Job overview
The successful candidate should be an excellent classroom practitioner, have leadership experience, with knowledge of the IB DP and the Spanish Bachillerato programme. Experience of university counselling is an advantage. In addition to the Head of Studies role, the successful candidate will be responsible for the leadership and management of data collection and the tracking of progress and achievement across the secondary department. Furthermore, the successful candidate must be open and willing to undertake professional training and have a reflective attitude towards their own practice, striving for excellence in all aspects of their work.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree (BA or BSc) plus PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification
• Masters level qualification
Experience
• Teaching experience in either the IB Diploma Programme or the Spanish Bachillerato programme. Teaching experience in both programmes is an advantage.
• Experience in the coordination of either the IB DP or Bachillerato programme. Experience of coordinating both programmes is an advantage.
• Educational leadership experience, including responsibility for students’ academic progress and achievement.
• Data collection and analysis of student progress and achievement.
• Experience of university counselling is an advantage

Contract and Benefits
• Permanent full-time post, with a four-month trial period.
• Social Security paid, ensuring state medical cover
• Moving expenses of €1.000 gross paid at the end of the first month (overseas candidates)
• Travel expenses related to moving, up to a maximum of €250 - receipts required (overseas candidates)
• Assistance given with settling-in administrative tasks (opening a bank account, registering with a doctor, etc.)
• 190 working days per year
• Christmas holidays: 2 weeks
• Easter holidays: 10 days
• Senior Leader summer holidays: 6 weeks
• Local, national and school’s free choice holidays: 12 days total

About the school
Oak House School is a private, co-educational school, situated in Sarrià, in the north of Barcelona. It was founded in 1968.
The school is a Non-Profit Foundation with a Board of Governors. The Board is comprised of seven parents, elected through the Parents’ Association.
We currently have 1108 pupils on roll, aged between 3 and 18 years.
In Early Years and Primary, Oak House School is fully authorised as a British School in Spain. The authorisation is awarded by the British Council, following a rigorous inspection by British inspectors. The school is a member of the National Association of British Schools in Spain (NABSS).
The Oak House Secondary department complies fully with the requirements of the Catalan education system and is an authorised International Baccalaureate World School, offering the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme to our 16 to 18 year old pupils.
Our Secondary pupils are also prepared for Cambridge International Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) exams in a range of subjects and Cambridge English Language exams from First Certificate to Proficiency level.
The high quality of teaching, the individual attention afforded to each pupil and the wide range of resources provided are factors which define Oak House School. One of the ways in which we do this is to support both local and international charities, collaborating with the United Nations International Childrens’ Fund (UNICEF) through the ‘School-in-a-box’ programme. Our pupils and families are involved in a variety of fundraising initiatives throughout the year. Secondary pupils also take part in community service projects.
Pupil support
We support each individual pupil in a number of ways. The essential support is provided by the class tutor and the teaching staff. The class tutor monitors each pupil’s academic progress and deals with any personal or social issues which may arise. The tutor provides the main link between the home and school and ensures that parents are well informed about their son/daughter’s academic progress and emotional well-being in school.
Technology
Technology is used at Oak House School to support and enhance learning whenever appropriate. We teach our pupils the skills that they will need in an ever-developing technological world. However, we also recognise that teachers and parents play essential roles in ensuring that students are not over-dependent on technology, in either their learning or their social interactions.
Classrooms and laboratories are well equipped to take advantage of the latest technologies and to allow all pupils individual access to a variety of devices.
Dining service
All food is prepared on the school premises and our menus are carefully monitored by a nutritionist. A vegetarian menu is offered and special dietary requirements are catered for.
