Job overview

We are looking to appoint a new Head of our Teaching School, responsible for the strategic direction and operational development of the Teaching School Alliance.

This is an opportunity to lead an innovative team and help to develop our CPD offer through our teaching Schools, Maths Hub and wider Federation. The role will also oversee our Apprenticeship strategy. You will have the opportunity to work alongside Federation Executive Leaders and to advise and guide Principals and other leaders on the requirements and design of our entire offer.

The Harris Federation Teaching School Alliance is the professional development centre of the Harris Federation. We operate twin Teaching Schools and an thriving Maths Hub. Our Teaching School offer draws on the fantastic work from across the 44 academies in the Federation, and is co-ordinated from our Head Office in East Croydon. We provide high-quality training at every level from Beginner Teachers to Executive Leaders. Many thousands of teachers and support staff from across London and beyond have benefited from our CPD offer. Our programmes are facilitated by experienced school leaders and support staff who have exemplary records in leading successful school improvement, and improving outcomes for their students. Our highly practical training and support programmes are available to all schools and academies, not just to Harris Federation staff.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced senior leader who would like to further develop their leadership experience to impact on the quality of professional learning across London. This is an opportunity to learn from working in a large number of schools and to extend your understanding of leadership in a variety of contexts.

As Head of the Teaching School, you will:

  • Work closely with Senior Leadership Teams from across the Federation to promote the teaching school and programmes internally and externally.
  • Work with a diverse range of external partners to promote the work of the Teaching School Alliance
  • Manage the Teaching School team.
  • Develop and oversee our wider Apprenticeship strategy.
  • Take accountability for business development and revenue generation for the Teaching School.

Why work for the Harris Federation?

Two Harris academies hold Teaching School status; Harris City Academy Crystal Palace, one of the first 100 Teaching Schools designated nationally and offers Specialist Leader of Education (SLE) training, and Harris Academy Chafford Hundred, well known for delivering the Outstanding Teacher and Improving Teacher Programmes. Both Teaching Schools work collaboratively with the rest of the Federation to share best practice, innovate and contribute to the wider educational system.

This is an opportunity to join an innovative Multi-Academy Trust with a proven track record of success in London, where you will play a key role in developing the future of our Teaching School offer. This is a chance to influence and contribute to the quality and variety of CPD delivered to schools and academies, both in and outside of the Federation, across London.

Our central office is based next to East Croydon station which gives easy access to London Bridge and Victoria as well as fast access to the M25.

The Harris Federation is a not-for-profit educational charity with almost 25 years of education experience in and around London. Our primary, secondary, all-through and sixth form academies have an international reputation for delivering a step change in education standards.

In joining a Harris Academy, you will be working with some of the country’s most exceptional teachers, support staff and leaders. There are frequent opportunities for internal exchange and promotion; our CPD is regularly described as Outstanding; and we have a package of staff benefits that rivals the most competitive of other professions.

Each Harris Academy is led and run by its senior leaders and has its own curriculum and way of doing things. What our Academies share, however, is a commitment to giving their children and teenagers an excellent education within a happy, caring and supportive environment.

There are Harris Academies in many different settings – inner city and suburban – but they are all within a maximum ninety minute commute from each other. This enables a highly collaborative structure, with on-call support from the Harris Federation.

You can find out more on our website (www.harrisfederation.org.uk) or by following us on Twitter (@HarrisFed).
