As a successful, selective girls school we have a unique opportunity to offer to experienced candidates looking to make their mark in re-developing this key area of our curriculum. The school is committed to keeping this area of our curriculum delivery up to date and is in a position to devote both time, finances and support for a creative and dynamic leader of this curriculum area.
The post would suit an experienced teacher or subject leader with knowledge of a wide range of areas across the Design Technology syllabus, in particular Resistant Materials, Graphics, CAD, Electronics. Currently Design Technology is taught throughout KS3, and there are GCSE groups in Design Technology-(Textiles) as well as Food and Nutrition. The re-development of the KS3 curriculum to better prepare our students for a wider range of Design Technology GCSE foci is a key aim. There is also the long term potential to work in collaboration with neighbouring schools on a post-16 Design Technology offer. Alongside the leadership of the Design Technology department there will be a requirement to contribute a small amount of teaching to the Art department.
Given the nature of this re-development opportunity the school is committed to working alongside the successful candidate to invest in the future resourcing of this area. The school has excellent professional learning opportunities and leadership programmes and we are committed to investing in our staff.

King Edward VI Handsworth School for Girls is a secondary grammar school in Birmingham, operating under the Schools of King Edward VI MAT in Birmingham. Since 2011, King Edward VI Handsworth School has held academy status. There are 1287 pupils aged 11-18 on the school roll, 350 of whom are in the sixth form.
The school was founded in 1911 by the merger of three pre-existing schools. Designed by architect PB Chatwin, King Edward VI Handsworth School then cost the very high figure of £50,000 to build.
Extensive renovations have been undertaken on the grammar school’s historic buildings, while new facilities include a library, science building, state-of-the-art sports hall along with a new dining room and Gym facility. A neighbouring church has been transformed into its music centre. The long-running school magazine is known as The Beacon.
