Job overview

A dynamic, experienced, inspirational leader is sought for the headship of this highly regarded co-educational day prep school, located in the thriving spa town of Royal Tunbridge Wells.

Founded in 1987 by current Head Angela Culley, the school is in fine health with waiting lists in many year groups. A recent ISI inspection found the school to be ‘Excellent’ in all categories.

After 30 years at the helm, Angela Culley is now planning for her retirement and the directors invite applications for the position of Head for September 2017. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to build upon the many successes enjoyed by the school in recent years, while preserving its unique ethos.

With 240 pupils aged 3 to 11, The Mead School is located in the heart of Tunbridge Wells, approximately 400 metres from the historic Pantiles. The school draws families from Tunbridge Wells and the surrounding towns and villages and appeals to a broad cross-section of the local community.

The Mead enjoys a reputation for high academic standards within a caring, happy environment. The school’s culture is built around a belief that a child who is happy, inspired and secure in school is one who is going to learn, thrive and aspire. School must be an exciting, fulfilling and safe place where every day is a new adventure and positively anticipated. Pupils sit both the Kent Selection Tests (11+) and entrance exams to a wide range of Independent Schools and success rates are admirable.

Since May 2016, The Mead School has been a member of Wishford Schools - a small, friendly group of six prep schools. The group aims to provide an excellent education to all pupils, giving every child the opportunity to shine. Standards and expectations are high, and staff and pupils are challenged and supported to give their best.
