An exciting opportunity to shape and drive forward Birmingham’s Virtual School.

The successful candidate will be Birmingham City Councils statutory lead (Children and Families Act 2014) with responsibility for ensuring that arrangements are in place to improve educational outcomes for Looked After Children and young people including those placed outside the City.

We are looking for someone with energy and enthusiasm, who can set the strategic direction and policy for the educational attainment and achievement of Children Looked After, across all educational settings in Birmingham, this is a demanding role but one that will bring many rewards. 

In this post you will champion the needs of Looked After Children and lead the work of the Virtual School aimed at delivering efficient and effective education arrangements.  You will lead the development of personal education plans and ensure the pupil premium is allocated effectively. In addition, the successful applicant will ensure the Virtual School meets all its statutory duties including the production of an annual report.  The role comes with the accountability for and reporting to senior officers, Elected Members and other stakeholders on the education performance of Children Looked After, so they can fulfil their Corporate Parenting role.

You will work collaboratively as part of a committed leadership team, model a range of positive behaviours and provide support and challenge to staff and partners to ensure the effective delivery of the Virtual School.

The successful candidate will be a successful senior leader with experience in an education setting and in addressing the needs of Children within the Care system. You will have knowledge and experience of the key elements of successful strategic leadership and management of change to bring about service improvement and positive outcomes for children looked after.
