Details: Full time, permanent.

Holiday: The school year for pupils is approximately 40 weeks. The Head of Upper School’s holiday entitlement will be taken outside the six school half terms as approved by the Governing Body. Some working time within school holiday periods is required.

BeyondAutism is a charity dedicated to empowering people with autism to lead fuller lives through positive educational experiences, training for the people who work with them and support for their families and carers. We run an Independent Special School for children aged 4-19, a Post-19 service, Outreach and Training and the beginnings of an Early Years’ service. 

About Rainbow School

Rainbow School offers a structured programme of intensive intervention, applying the scientific principles of  Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) and Verbal Behaviour (VB) to deliver the National Curriculum and teach functional communication and life skills; empowering our pupils to lead rewarding lives and fulfil their potential.

Job Purpose

The successful applicant will be an active member of BeyondAutism’s Senior Management Team and in partnership with the Head of Lower School will lead Rainbow School. A qualified teacher, with significant senior leadership experience, you will be instrumental in ensuring that the ethos and environment of the school at all times fulfils the mission of BeyondAutism to transform through education the lives of children and young people by achieving the highest standards of educational practice available. You will join a supportive staff team where teamwork, flexibility and a positive attitude are essential attributes. You will:

· In conjunction with the Governing Body, the Head of Lower School and other senior staff formulate the overall aims and objectives of the school and policies for their implementation within the vision, mission and strategic direction set by the Trustee Board of BeyondAutism.

· Be responsible for the overall safeguarding and welfare of Upper School pupils, in addition to the line management of the Head of Pastoral/Designated Safeguarding Lead.

· Be responsible for the academic achievement and skill development of Upper School pupils.

· Be responsible for determining in conjunction with the principles of ABA, appropriate standards of behaviour.

· Be responsible for developing strategies to ensure partnership with parents to develop and sustain optimal strategies for children’s learning.

· Lead the Upper School in times of external review and scrutiny (including: Ofsted, Local Authority Reviews, school improvement reviews commissioned by the governing body and/or BeyondAutism).
