Head of Virtual School

Permanent, part time (29.6 hours per week)

Scale PO2, Salary £34,538 - £37,306 pro rata

(with potential for an additional market supplement)

Rutland is one of the best places in the country to live, learn, work, play and visit. We may be the smallest Unitary Authority in England, but we can offer fantastic opportunities to make a real difference to the lives of the residents in our local community. This is your chance to become part of a great team, delivering great services throughout the County.

We are looking for an inspirational and visionary leader for our virtual school to continue its development. As Head, you will have the opportunity to lead, support, and challenge, internal and external schools and partners to secure the best possible educational outcomes for children and young people in the care of the Local Authority and those previously looked after. Setting the strategic direction and policy in this area, you will ensure that positive transitions are made at the key educational milestones.

You will need to be able to demonstrate strong and effective leadership of, and influence over, the education performance of children and young people as a school leader or within a relevant local authority role. Having gained experience in working across a range of education settings, you will bring a passion for promoting the educational achievement of children in care, or having recently left care, and celebrating their success.

You will have an excellent understanding of social care and education legislation pertinent to children in care, or who have recently left care, to ensure all of our statutory duties are discharged. You will also be able to work creatively to unblock significant barriers to educational success.

The successful applicant for this post will be subject to an enhanced check by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

We act as ‘One Council’ in all we do, with each of us working together in the most effective way to meet the needs of our customers every day – if you share this ethos then we very much want to hear from you.
