Job overview

I am delighted that you have expressed an interest in this position. This pack is intended to provide information about the role and the Academy’s values and ethos, however, please do not hesitate to seek further information from either myself or Senior Colleagues if necessary.

We are seeking to recruit a teaching Head of Year for Year 7 to provide pastoral care for our students and follow them through their Academy journey.

The successful candidate must be committed to working with a team of staff to foster the God-given talents and potential of every learner, thus allowing them to flourish and grow into successful citizens. They will champion high expectations for all, challenge under-achievement and promote healthy and safe lifestyles.

In line with our vision, we seek to ensure that each child, during their time with us at the Academy, makes the most of every opportunity presented to them. We aim to nurture and guide them through wise words and positive experiences, so that they leave as us as confident individuals. For some students this process requires conversations around forgiveness so that they build a foundation for a better future, whilst for others the dialogue offers a space where they see the difference that small, better choices make on a regular basis.

The role demands great resilience and a high degree of emotional intelligence. You will at times need to hold tough conversations but you will always be supported by a team of staff who will offer you valuable advice.

Our recent SIAMS report found our pastoral care to be “exceptional.” The Key Stage 3 team is led by an Assistant Principal and comprises of three teaching Heads of Year and three full time non-teaching Assistant Heads of Year.

If you aspire to middle and senior pastoral leadership, we would love to hear from you.

The closing date for applications is 9am on Tuesday 7th May 2024.

Please submit the Teaching Staff application form, which can be downloaded from the Academy website, along with a letter of application of not more than two A4 sides detailing how your experiences to date qualify you for the role. This should be sent to knightingale@saintwilfrids.com.

I look forward to receiving your application.

About St Wilfrid's Church of England Academy

ABOUT ST WILFRID'S C OF E ACADEMY

St Wilfrid’s Church of England Academy provides a faith-led education for 11 to 18 year olds serving the Borough of Blackburn with Darwen and parts of Pennine Lancashire. We seek to provide an excellent education based upon a strong Christian foundation, as we develop all who work, learn and serve in our community. We benefit from purpose-built accommodation with excellent facilities. All in all, it is a wonderful place to work and learn. Visitors to St Wilfrid’s comment on the calm and purposeful environment, the friendly nature of our students and the welcoming nature of our staff.

We have a reputation for high academic standards. As a comprehensive school, we pride ourselves on providing teaching and learning which engages all students. The recent SIAMS inspector stated:

“Almost everyone describes the academy as being ‘one big family’ where all care for and help one another. This is understood to be the outworking of Christian values and teachings which underpin excellent behaviour and relationships. Students recognise in teachers a commitment to serve which for many is an aspect of their Christian faith. This prompts them to strive to provide the best and most supportive opportunities for all students. The result is exemplary academic and pastoral support which enables students to make good progress, attain excellent results and develop spiritually, morally, socially and culturally (SMSC 2016).”

MISSION STATEMENT

“St Wilfrid’s Church of England Academy sees education as an integral  part of the mission of the Church to proclaim God as Creator, Christ as Redeemer and the Holy Spirit as Inspirer of all that is good in human living.  The main purpose of the school is to provide an excellent education, both academic and social, in a Christian context, to enable its students to grow up to take their full part as citizens of this world and the next.”
