Head of Year 7

Inner London Pay Scale plus TLR 1b (£9,377)

Required September 2017

Closing Date Thursday 4th May 2017 at midday

We seek to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated Head of Year who is passionate about the pastoral and academic well-being of young people to join our dynamic and growing school.

In this key role you will professionally lead, manage, develop, support and be accountable for the Year 7 team of staff and students in order to ensure the highest possible standards of achievement, progress, personal development and well-being.  You will be excited by supporting and developing systems which actively raise student achievement and progress, and can demonstrate the ability to build very strong links with home, school and other key workers.  You will have a key role in the community; building on strong relationships with our feeder primary schools to ensure that every student starts their time at Bow from a firm platform of good communication and understanding of their primary schooling.

It is an exciting time to join Bow School in Bromley-by-Bow, London as we undergo a significant programme of expansion and change. Since 2014 we have moved into our iconic state of the art buildings, seen our first intake of girls, opened a Sixth Form and started our growth to a 9-form entry school.

The diversity of the school community ensures that Bow is a vibrant and interesting place to work.  The successful candidates will demonstrate consistent high standards of teaching and excellent classroom management skills.

We Offer

• An established and comprehensive mentor programme

• A strong personalised programme of professional development and coaching for teachers and support staff

• Strong links with other local schools for partnership working and support

• A strong community spirit

• Staff who are very supportive towards each other with a great camaraderie existing throughout the school

Bow School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our students and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  This post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure and the successful applicant will be subject to relevant vetting checks before an offer of appointment is confirmed and will be subject to rechecking thereafter, as appropriate.

Bow is a thriving secondary school in Tower Hamlets, which has undergone a transformational journey into a highly Ofsted rated, co-educational, dynamic learning environment that provides students a rich and broad curriculum in a modern, state-of-the-art building.

This is a time of great optimism at Bow. To deliver on our vision of outstanding outcomes for all we have embedded innovative and effective teaching across the curriculum, and expanded learning opportunities beyond the classroom through a range of partners. We harness their energy, skills and experience to open doors to the wider world.

Our success is founded on the principle of demanding more; more from ourselves, more from students and staff, and more from parents and partners. By doing this we challenge everyone within our community to achieve more than they thought possible. This allows students to aspire for greatness, whether that be taking up places at top universities, securing careers with leading employers or establishing their own enterprises.

Our role is not to dictate students’ destinations, but to provide them with the tools they need to realise their dreams. I firmly believe our culture facilitates this by allowing everyone to learn from mistakes, explore new opportunities and ignite passions they didn’t realise they had.

We are committed to achieving this through our key values:

  • Adaptability
  • Respect
  • Curiosity
  • Determination

These values define our expectations of everyone at the school. We believe by living and breathing them our students will be prepared for the rigours of modern society and that staff will be enabled to offer the best to the community we serve.

Bow is a life-changing school, where students can kickstart successful lives. I strongly encourage everyone already associated with the school to be an active member of our community, and those seeking a secondary school for their child to come and visit us.

Danny Lye, Headteacher
