Job overview

William Perkin Church of England High School, Greenford, Middlesex UB6 8PR is seeking to appoint a:

Head of Year 8

We are looking for a Head of Year 8 to join our outstanding school as we grow into our fifth year. The school offers exceptional opportunities for professional development and you will be joining an incredibly talented and supportive pastoral team. William Perkin Church of England High School opened in September 2013 with its first intake of Year 7 students and now has four year groups (7 – 10) totalling around 775 students.  We have had an incredibly positive journey so far and are rated ‘Outstanding’ in all areas by Ofsted (June 2015) and SIAMS (October 2016).

The Head of Year 8 will be fully committed to ensuring all students in the year group are supported by effective pastoral systems to enable them to make outstanding academic progress within the wider context of their full personal, social and spiritual progression. The post-holder must ensure all students make an effective transition from year 7 to 8 and are on curriculum programmes which allow them to engage fully and stretch.

The post-holder will deliver outstanding leadership and management of the Year team, and effective communication with parents and outside agencies. S/he will also ensure all new tutors are inducted into the school ethos and systems, and will lead in the delivery of the existing tutor time programme which covers PSHE and Citizenship. S/he will be an outstanding classroom practitioner with the drive to manage a team committed to achieving outstanding results for all students irrespective of ability, and will be enthused by the prospect of maintaining a student learning culture within the Year team which is both engaging and aspirational.

Students’ behaviour at the school is exemplary and there is an incredibly positive sense of community amongst students and staff, enabled by our whole school ethos and ‘Etiquette’. Our students understand the importance of their studies and school life, and genuinely care about the progress they are making. They are diligent and hardworking when it comes to prep, homework and revision, and are very mature and independent.

This represents an unusually interesting opportunity for a teacher with relevant experience to join an already successful team, in a new school, at a very exciting time in its development.
