ROLE SUMMARY:

· To support, monitor and track the social, personal, and academic development of students.

· To co-ordinate, develop, and assure high-quality delivery of the pastoral curriculum.

 

The Head of Year will assume responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the Year Group, providing information to Tutors, Middle school Leadership, and Executive Leadership regarding the progress towards the relevant sections of the school’s strategic aims and development plan.

 

The post holder will work with the Executive Head, Heads and Deputy Heads of Key Stage, and Heads of Years to develop the vision and strategic direction of the school. They collaborate to maintain and improve upon the school’s academic outcomes, student satisfaction, and retention within and between year groups.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Co-ordinate, develop, and assure high-quality delivery of the pastoral curriculum in the year group. Ensuring the provision of an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant, and differentiated curriculum for students, in accordance with the aims of the school and its curricular policies.

- Monitor and support the wellbeing and educational needs of students within the year group, working with parents, tutors, teachers, Heads of Subject, and the SEN team as needed.

- Lead year group events, weekly inductions, reflect lessons and assemblies.

- Lead and support a group of tutors, keeping them informed of key information relevant to the year group. This involves providing a clear vision and direction of work, identifying key areas for improvement, and planning appropriate actions to meet them.

- Act as a role model and offer strong leadership to all teachers and tutors working within the Year Group, upholding, and representing the leadership team.

- Actively strengthen the relationship between home and school.

- Liaise with other Heads of Year, Heads of Subjects, the SEN Team, the Learning Innovation Team, Family Liaisons, and the Exams Team to monitor and develop the student experience for the Year Group.

- Follow agreed intervention strategies to support student progress and wellbeing, offering support and guidance where appropriate.

- Support teachers and tutors with the implementation of behaviour management strategies as per the school’s behaviour policy, liaising with families as appropriate.

- Act as a first escalation point for student and parent issues and concerns, ensuring clear and responsive communications to resolve matters.

- Collaborate with Family Liaisons to support students and families.

- Have a positive and solution-focused approach to challenges.

- Be a visible and public member of the Key Stage Team.

- Contribute to the effective implementation and upholding of the school’s ethos, identity and values to all stakeholders.

- Model excellence in the classroom.

- Contribute to marketing activities to support prospective families to join the school.

- Report on progress and developments within their Year Group to Middle school and Executive Leadership.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

- The effective and efficient operation of the year group.

- The development and quality of teaching, learning and provision.

- The management of student progress and standards across the curriculum; using data and a range of valid evidence to inform development planning; leading interventions; working closely with the Heads of Subject to support students.

- The learning needs and learning experiences of students and their engagement with school.

- The management of tutor’s pastoral role.

- The wellbeing of tutors in their Year Group.

- The planning of pastoral and co-curricular programmes, ensuring adherence to school policies and procedures, and behaviour for learning.

- The running of the Student Council.

- The implementation of relevant sections of the School Development Plan.

 

 

The Head of Year will need to assume additional responsibilities which might, from time to time, be determined as reasonable.

Inspired Online Schools use state-of-the-art digital technology and operates two established divisions – King's InterHigh, a non-selective fee-paying online secondary school, established in 2005 and a B2B division including Academy 21, serving other educational providers, schools, local authorities and other public bodies.

King's InterHigh is the largest online school group in the UK, delivering a fully personalised education online. Our curriculum structure is based on the Key Stages, with IGCSEs offered at KS4 and A Levels at KS5. We teach students online from Key Stage 2 - 5, through a digital platform.

Academy21 is an online alternative provision, which caters for vulnerable students with different needs from a range of schools, local authorities and virtual provisions. We teach all core subjects at KS3 and KS4 plus various additional subjects including citizenship studies, English literature, history and ICT. Students take GCSEs and Functional Skills qualifications at KS4 and may stay with the school for any length of time, depending on their individual circumstances.

Our successful candidates will join a talented team providing excellent online educational experiences for our students whose ages range between 8 and 18. The successful candidates will demonstrate expertise and experience of delivering their subject specialism/s and come from either a state school and/or independent school background. Passionate about ensuring the students are at the centre of learning, the successful candidate will be used to deadlines, have experience of creating effective learning resources and having a key focus on the academic monitoring and progress of the students.

About our Roles

Here at InterHigh and Academy21, our Leaders of Learning (Teacher) contracts do differ from mainstream schools due to the nature of our business and ways of operating. As a Leader of Learning (Teacher) you will be contracted to 42 weeks of the year, up to 38 of these weeks are contact weeks with the students, with the remaining weeks being available for additional activity such as course writing.

You will work 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. During the school day there are allocated breaks in the morning, lunch time and in the afternoon, with breaks in between each lesson also.

Our lessons are 40 minutes long which ensures the time spent in the classroom is value added and effective. A full time Leader of Learning could be given a timetable with up to 33 lessons, equating to 22 hours of contact time.

As a business and a school, we do not follow the Teachers Mainstream Payscale, we operate in line with our own salary bandings. Further information specifically for each role will be available via the job adverts.
