Due to internal promotions, departmental restructuring and continual growth of our 6th form, The Bishop of Winchester Academy is seeking an outstanding Head of Year able to establish a strong rapport with young people and be rigorous in maintaining our ethos of high expectations – no excuses.

As Head of Year, you will be committed to the highest standards of support for student welfare and behaviour for learning.  This is an integral role in ensuring the academic, personal, social, emotional and spiritual development of students within the academy through the consistent and fair implementation of our values and expectations.

The Bishop of Winchester Academy is a Church of England school, recognised by Ofsted as ‘improving the life chances of all [our] pupils’, and offering an ‘outstanding curriculum’ pioneered by ‘outstanding leadership’ (May 2017).  Operating from recently refurbished facilities, our shared mission to improve the life chances of all of our students is at the very centre of our work.


As Head of Year you will:

  • Be knowledgeable in strategies to support students with challenging behaviours with confidence.
  • Be able to inspire, influence, challenge and motivate others, leading by example.
  • Be able to motivate and inspire students to achieve their full potential.
  • Have the belief that all children can make outstanding progress.
  • Be able to confidently meet with parents to resolve issues both successfully and in line with academy policies.


The post offers ample opportunities for an ambitious teacher to develop their skills, in addition to:

  • A bespoke CPD programme including training and in department development time
  • Excellent teaching facilities including brand new interactive smart boards 
  • A robust behaviour system allowing teaching staff to deliver high quality learning opportunities to students
  • School site in close proximity to beaches and the Jurassic Coast

The Bishop of Winchester Academy, based in Bournemouth, Dorset, is a Church of England secondary school that prides itself on its curriculum, governance and outstanding student behaviour. Students aged 11-18 experience teaching in new state-of-the-art buildings and have first-class resources at their fingertips. The school operates in an area where there are schools that select for entry on grounds of ability.

The mixed secondary school was opened in September 2010 as a sponsor-led academy. In September 2014, the Bishop of Winchester Academy extended its educational opportunities by opening its own sixth form.
