Head of Year/Deputy Head of Year

PolyMAT is a small and ambitious MAT with a unique family feel that is seeking a Head of Year/Deputy Head of Year.  Our vision is ‘Success for Everyone’ and the successful candidate will help deliver this for our schools. We currently have three schools in our Trust: Woolwich Polytechnic School for Boys, a long-successful boys’ school, Woolwich Polytechnic School for Girls that opened in 2019, and Bannockburn Primary School, a large successful primary that joined the Trust on 1st November 2023. We also have our flourishing Sixth Form provision which is co-educational.

Following the success of our first ever Ofsted inspection at Woolwich Polytechnic School for Girls, we are looking for dedicated teachers that will join us on our journey in delivering an outstanding education for all our students. By joining us, you will play a vital role in supporting our girls to grow as women whose voices are heard and respected. Through this, we hope that they will become influential mothers, sisters, carers, friends and, ultimately, successful and happy members of society.

For September 2024, we are seeking an enthusiastic, innovative and well qualified teacher to join our team as Head of Year/Deputy Head of Year in motivating and supporting students. The successful candidate will be a role model for exceptional teaching and set the standard for teaching in the year group as well as leading a team of dedicated tutors in overseeing student progress and wellbeing. We are looking to appoint someone who is ambitious, dynamic and has a passion for pastoral leadership. The year group will be confirmed on appointment. 

The Role

Co-ordinating and ensuring the personal, social and academic progress of all students in their year group.

 Key responsibilities:

 •          Role model exceptional teaching and set the standard for teaching in the year group

•          Manage class teachers in their class teacher responsibilities (including attendance tracking, pastoral management, parent communication, registration culture, form/team culture)

•          Implement pastoral provisions and behaviour management strategies for specific pupils

•          Demonstrate high expectations of behaviour, holding pupils to account for their actions at all times

•          Plan character development education in the year group

•          Maintain excellent relationships with parents

•          Be held accountable for the progress of all pupils in all subjects in their year group

•          Manage other appropriate staff as required

•          Develop staff through feedback and support

•          Attend morning pastoral meetings daily

•          Be a safeguarding lead for your year group
