Job overview

Woolwich Polytechnic School for Girls, part of the PolyMAT multi academy trust, is an all-inclusive girls’ school, the latest addition to the Trust and sister school to Woolwich Polytechnic School for Boys. The two schools work in close collaboration and both adhere to the Trust’s motto of ‘stronger together.’ All staff in the Trust have an innate passion and drive to empower and educate our students, to help them become the leaders of tomorrow.

This is a Trust that put staff wellbeing at the forefront of everything iot does.

The Trust recognises the importance that each of its schools also has a strong individual identity and this is why Woolwich Poly Girls has its own values of: Leadership,Excellence and Resilience.

Our students strive for excellence and deepen their resilience and stoical behaviours at every step. They are driven by their teachers’ high expectations and their exceptional skills. Our thorough behaviour systems are consistently well-managed so that you no longer have to worry about low-level disruption. The relationships you can build with students, and the learning you can foster in your classroom, are remarkable.

Tom Bennett: ‘Routines are your main superpower. Students need to know what they are expected to do in the classroom and corridor. Don't expect them to know, or if they do, to do it. And if they don't do it, practice it until they get it right.’

As a school we are inspired by the work of Tom Bennett and as The Head of Year  you will be expected to be familiar with his research and work. You will work with the Senior Leadership Team to ensure Woolwich Polytechnic School for Girls provides an outstanding education for all pupils, rooted in the inclusive and distinctive ethos of educational excellence and character development. As a Head of year you will be warm but strict.

The Head of Year will do this by leading a team of Form Tutors, overseeing the behaviour and conduct of a year group, developing schemes of work for tutor time, that support both the pastoral and academic development of all students.

Your Key responsibilities will be implementing the school vision and having the highest expectation of yourself and your team at all times, whether this is during line up, assembly or Family Dining. You will also have exceptional communication skills, where you will be expected to develop strong relationships with our students, parents and local community.

In your statement please include answers to these questions:

1. Why do you want to join our pastoral team at Woolwich Polytechnic School for Girls?

2. How would you fit in with our unique ethos?

3. How would you empower our young women to be future leaders?

As a member of staff at Woolwich Polytechnic School for Girls we can offer you:

· Excellent professional development

· A contributory pension scheme

· Opportunities to collaborate with outstanding and dynamic teaching professionals

· Access to various discounts for a small monthly fee

All new trustees, employees and volunteers will be required to undertake safeguarding training on induction, which will be regularly updated in line with statutory guidance.

The school is also committed to promoting equality, challenging discrimination and developing community cohesion. We welcome applications from all sections of the community.
