Head of Year

A new opportunity has arisen due to our continued growth. The post of Head of Year is an extremely important and key role in the Academy. You will be responsible for a year group and all that encompasses including attendance, behaviour, and progress. The role brings together the academic with the pastoral in order to further improve and help shape the future of our students in the Academy. We are at an exciting stage in our development as we are now oversubscribed and a popular choice.

The successful candidate will be a hardworking, creative, energetic person who is able to both lead and support the Academy in engaging a year group of students to reflect on their learning and the wider role they have in the Academy community. They will deliver appropriate attendance, behaviour and progress strategies set within the ethos of the Academy which will contribute to every aspect of student life. They will have the capacity to help us to further develop an accessible learning environment and build a culture of enthusiasm for learning. Their professionalism and dedication will enable our students to achieve more than they believe possible.

Working with the Heads of Lower and Upper School and the wider Access and Inclusion Team, the post is permanent and 37 hours per week, Term time including Professional Learning Days plus five additional days. Experience of working in schools or a related professional service is desirable.

The Skinners’ Kent Academy is a co-educational, non-denominational secondary school for children aged 11-18 with around 1,100 students currently on its role. Located in Tunbridge Wells, the Academy is a non-selective school in a local authority that operates a selective system.

The Academy is part of the Skinners' Academies Trust who are supported by The Skinners’ Company, one of the 12 great livery companies in the City of London.

“The school motto of ‘pride in our success’ permeates through how pupils conduct themselves around the school. They strive to become well-rounded and respectful members of society. Pupils show kindness and consideration to each other because they want everyone to feel included. A strong pastoral provision in every key stage means that pupils feel well supported and have someone to go to if they need help. Should bullying happen, pupils know that staff will help them resolve issues quickly. Relationships between staff and pupils are nurturing and positive. This means that pupils feel safe and well looked after.
