Job overview

The BOA Group is a Multi-Academy Trust of specialist academies located in Birmingham city centre, in the hub of the creative and digital industries. Though based in Birmingham, the academies recruit from across the wider Midlands region.

The BOA Group is a distinctive Multi-Academy Trust, which has grown from our first school, Birmingham Ormiston Academy (BOA). There are now three academies, each with its own distinctive character.

BOA Digital Technologies, a brand new 11-18 Free School, welcomed its first cohort of Year 7 students in September 2022. By September 2024, we will be full in each of years 7 to 9. Our vision is to offer a truly unique and distinctive education and provide a new model of teaching underpinned by digital skills and learning. Located in the heart of Birmingham’s growing technology and digital hub, close to industrial and academic partners, and with first-class facilities, BOA Digital is looking to meet the UK’s growing need for a high-class digital workforce.

We are seeking to appoint an experienced, confident and enthusiastic Head of Year (Pastoral Manager) to this non-teaching post. Reporting into the Assistant Principal, you will lead on pastoral support with all matters relating to student welfare and safeguarding.

You will encourage a climate of mutual support in which self-confidence and self-esteem can grow and an effective department team is established and nurtured.

A full induction package and CPD opportunities are offered to help develop your teaching practice.

We are looking for someone with:

  • A strong track record in pastoral support.
  • A good understanding of the importance of student welfare and safeguarding as well as the systems in place to support this.
  • Good administrative/clerical skills, particularly providing support in the preparation for and attendance of meetings, including taking and disseminating minutes.
  • Excellent diary management skills.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to build rapport, trust and confidence with pupils and their parents/carers and other internal and external stakeholders.
  • The ability to work in collaboration with colleagues to ensure the smooth running of pastoral support.
  • Exceptional personal organisation and time management skills.
  • Skills and knowledge of using Microsoft Office and MI Systems to record and access pupil data.
  • Presence, enthusiasm, good sense of humour and approachability.
  • An excellent record of punctuality.

This is an excellent opportunity to make a difference to the future of education within a world class academy. If you share the academy’s vision and ambitions, possess a strong desire to work within an ethos of creative collaboration and partnership and want to have a positive impact on young people, families, and the community then we would be delighted to hear from you.

The Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people/vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.

Applications close on April 26th 2024 at noon and we will interview in the w/b 29th April. However, we reserve the right to invite applicants for an interview before the process finishes.
