Job overview

We are seeking a Head of Year to lead a team of tutors and oversee a year group of approximately 220 students. The successful candidate will lead a team of tutors and be responsible for the overall welfare and care of students in that year group, linking pastoral and curriculum priorities to get the very best outcomes for every young person. 

An outstanding teacher in your subject area, you would be joining a supportive, collaborative and committed teaching body who work hard to deliver innovative and enjoyable lessons. In return for your hard work, you will receive exceptional support and training, and the rewards that come with teaching students who really want to learn and achieve well.

Alongside a permanent position, we also have fixed term (maternity cover) Head of Year opportunities (June or September start), so welcome interest from teachers who may be new to pastoral and looking to gain experience in this area.

Hinchley Wood is an inclusive and high achieving school on the borders of SW London, celebrating student progress and development as well as academic achievement. We are one of the top 200 performing schools in England and Wales in terms of the progress our students make between the end of Key Stage 2 and their GCSEs. Our Progress 8 figure has been significantly positive: +0.87 in 2022, +1.0 in 2020 and 2021 and +0.74 in 2019.

The successful candidate will teach across the age and ability range in this highly sought after 11-18 co-educational academy, with over 1,400 students on roll including 275 in our Sixth Form. We are extremely proud of our students’ academic achievements, but we also celebrate student progress and development in all areas and we enjoy outstanding sporting and creative achievements.

Hinchley Wood School is a comprehensive coeducational secondary school based in Surrey, for students between the ages of 11 and 18. It gained academy status in 2012 and multi academy status in 2019 - Hinchley Wood Learning Partnership.  In October 2019 Hinchley Wood Primary School joined the Partnership.
