Head of Year with teaching commitment

This is an exciting opportunity to for an experienced teacher and inspirational Head of Year to join our middle leadership team and play a role in our ongoing school development. 

The Role

The post of Head of Year is key in upholding all aspects of care, guidance and support to ensure that students are able to learn effectively and be successful. The Heads of Year, with the support of form tutors and other staff working with the Year have a unique overview of the year group and of the individuals within it. Their expertise and knowledge of the students is essential to the smooth running and achievement of the school.

Heads of Year form a vital part of the middle leadership team and therefore play a major role in ensuring school improvement.

The Head of Year also has a clear role in fostering good links with parents/carers. It is crucial that this partnership is established and built upon. Heads of Year also have a responsibility to liaise with other external agencies in order to ensure all students in their year are fully supported and all barriers to learning removed.

The successful candidate will

  • Be an expert teacher in their subject
  • Have evidence of raising student attainment
  • Have previous pastoral experience
  • Have the ability to inspire, enthuse and motivate students

Carshalton High School for Girls, a member of the Girl’s Learning Trust, is a high achieving school in the suburbs of south London. Confirmed as “Good” by Ofsted in January 2023, we achieved our best exam results to date in Summer 2023.

About Carshalton High School for Girls

Carshalton High School for Girls is a highly successful, popular 11 to 18 comprehensive school.  There are 1450 students on roll, over 80 teaching staff and a number of support staff who make a major contribution to the daily smooth running of the school.  Staff work as a cohesive team setting the highest professional standards as an example to the students.  Students enjoy positive and co-operative relationships with staff and it is very rare if an external visitor to the school does not comment on the high calibre of the students and the positive working environment.  We are part of the Girls’ Learning Trust.

Our mission statement clearly states that we are a community where ‘staff and students learn and thrive together’ and we are entirely committed to ensuring staff are given the opportunities and encouragement to develop both personally and professionally.

Ofsted inspected our school in November 2017 and judged us to be 'Good in all categories and good overall'.
