Job overview

Cumnor House School for Girls is a preparatory school in the Croydon area accepting girls from four to eleven years, with main entry years at ages four and seven.  We are now seeking an inspirational Head to forward educational, pastoral, operational, commercial and regulatory provision and provide a safe learning environment for students and staff.

Our school is friendly, informal and homely, but academically strong – this balance is a real strength.  We are seeking a dynamic Head with excellent leadership abilities and exceptional interpersonal skills who will make an impact and influence the future direction of the school.

About Cumnor House Girls' School

Cumnor House School for Girls is an independent preparatory school in Purley, near Croydon in Surrey, for girls aged 4-11. The school was originally part of The Lodge, a co-educational school in Purley. The Cognita group took over management of the school in 2010 and it reopened under its present name in 2011.

Since taking over the school, Cognita has completely refurbished the teaching accommodation and provided a new science laboratory and food technology room. Investment has also been made in new ICT equipment.

Cumnor House School for Girls values the way in which all children are unique, and promotes respect for the views of each individual child, as well as for people of all cultures. It aims to foster a love of learning within a structured, broad and balanced curriculum. Teachers strive to develop self-esteem in each pupil, while emphasising individual talents in a wide range of fields, including academic subjects, music, sport, art and drama.

“The achievement of the pupils is excellent and successfully fulfils the school’s aims. The pupils have a strong learning ethos, they are highly articulate, they listen carefully, the quality of their writing is of a high standard and the standard of their mathematics is exceptional… Pupils are very successful in their entry examinations to their senior schools and win a large number of academic and other scholarships. The curriculum is most effective in meeting the schools’ aims.”
