Job overview

The Head’s PA provides strictly private and confidential support to the Head, facilitating his/her ability to lead and develop the school. We are looking for a caring, energetic, friendly, confident and extremely well-organised candidate. The successful applicant must be willing and able to take on a variety of tasks and be happy to work in a busy environment where constant interruptions are the norm!

Tact, discretion and diplomacy are paramount, together with an excellent telephone manner and ability to build strong working relationships with all members of the school staff and parents. You will need to develop a deep understanding of the aims, ethos and atmosphere of the school, as well as the vision of the Head. A sense of humour is very important and so is a real desire to contribute to the wellbeing of staff, pupils and parents.

The administrative team is made up of the Head’s PA, two school office administrators, the Schools Information Management Systems Manager (Data Manager) and is overseen by the Marketing and Admissions Registrar.

The successful applicant must have a high level of digital/technical ability (Microsoft Office including Word, PowerPoint and Excel including an understanding of mail merges). Database use is required and a willingness to learn and become familiar with the school’s SIMS database is crucial.  A high standard of written English and grammar is required.

The Job Description covers the principal tasks required of the Head’s PA. It is not necessarily a complete list of everything required for the role. The members of office staff work together as a team. At busy times, it is expected that the staff will support each other with the workload in hand.

The role is a multi-faceted one and a willingness to be adaptable and resourceful is essential. Castle Court is a warm, friendly environment in which to work and the supportive staff, both teaching and non-teaching, are often willing to ‘go the extra mile’. The successful applicant will be prepared to embrace this/her ethos to allow the Head to fulfil his/her responsibilities successfully and easily.

The school has a very strong ethos: the children at Castle Court are allowed to be children; while at the same time they are expected to establish strong and responsible values caring for one another.  As a school we aim to support and stretch each child’s talents in all areas in which they strive to succeed.  Academic pursuits, Sport, Art, Music and Drama are all taken seriously.  In summary, we only have one childhood, and it has to be the best.

Castle Court School is based at Knoll Lane, Corfe Mullen, Wimborne, Dorset, BH21 3RF. It is formed of three units:  Nursery and Reception; Years One and Two (Pre-Prep); and Years Three to Eight (Prep School).
The attractive rural setting which the school enjoys is within easy reach of Poole and Bournemouth, Wimborne, Blandford, Dorchester, Ringwood, Swanage and Wareham.

The school was founded in 1948 by Donald and Mary Scott, and moved from Parkstone to its present site on the edge of Corfe Mullen in 1968. Here the children have all the space they need around them; over 30 acres of playing fields, adventure playgrounds, woodland and gardens surround the school buildings. In 1973 the school became a Charitable Trust under a Board of Governors and has been a co-educational day school, providing continuity of education for boys and girls from 3 to 13, since the late 1970s.
The school has demonstrated its strength across the board: academically, in grammar school tests and scholarship exams; musically in widely acclaimed concerts and individual grade results; in sport by achieving county and indeed national representation; as well as in Art, Drama and many other areas.
