Job overview

The Owners and Governors of Bedstone College invite applications for the post of Head, which falls vacant in April 2019 due to the appointment of the current Head, David Gajadharsingh, to the post of Principal at The Royal Ballet School in London.

Bedstone enjoys an enviable reputation as a dynamic, happy and supportive environment with a strong family atmosphere. The Owners and Governors are looking to appoint a strategic and inspirational leader who can take the College to the next level. Further details are available in the job description and person specification. The successful candidate will lead an experienced and committed SMT and have overall responsibility for both the Junior and Senior Schools.

Set in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the South Shropshire Hills and just 12 miles from the famous, medieval, walled market town of Ludlow, Bedstone College is a quintessentially British Independent Boarding & Day School. With the historic towns of Hereford and Shrewsbury within 25 miles, there are excellent transport links to the rest of the UK. Birmingham International airport is just over an hour by car.

The benefits package is set to reflect the importance of the post and will take into account qualifications and experience. To ensure that the duties of the Head can be carried out effectively, the College will provide a substantial 4 Bedroom family residence with a large garden and will include all heating, electricity and maintenance. The College participates fully in the DfE Teachers’ Superannuation Scheme. There are also very generous fee concessions with respect to staff children being educated at the College.

Application forms together with full details of both the post and the school can be obtained from the Bursar, Mr Adrian Gore at the College address; Bedstone College, Bucknell, Shropshire SY7 0BG or at bursar@bedstone.org, to whom completed applications should be returned.  Long List selection will take place in the week commencing 12 October. Shortlisted candidates and their spouses/partners will be invited to visit the College in the week beginning 5 November to informally meet the Head and members of the SMT. Interviews are planned to take place in Ludlow on Thursday 15 November.  If applicants do not hear from the College by these dates, they must assume that their application has not been taken to the next stage.

The appointment will be subject to a satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check and other safeguarding checks, in accordance with the requirements of the Children Act.

Closing date for applications: Friday 5 October 2018

Bedstone College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  All applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post.
