About Gwenllian Education Centre.

We currently support 18 pupils at our school however we are registered for 22 pupils between the ages of 5 and 19. We support pupils across the spectrum and currently operate 3 classrooms of pupils with a teacher in each classroom, depending on age and skills.

We have very high staffing ratio’s and often have more teaching assistants and senior teaching assistants in class to ensure that pupils are engaged throughout the day

Most pupils are taught in shared classrooms but some pupils are based in individual classrooms while they join together for some shared group sessions. We have some shared activity spaces include outside areas and a dining room where pupils are supported to come together to eat.

We are fortunate to have access to vehicles to facilitate educational activities outside school and have access to our own swimming pool, we take pupils on regular shopping trips as well as horse riding, cycling, skiing trips and others.

There are a number of other smaller individual spaces used for therapeutic intervention and bespoke support packages.

Our curriculum is being rewritten to consider the changes to the New Welsh Curriculum, however we use a number of resources to inform our school provision and have pupils who are working within the national curriculum and may achieve some GCSE’s, and we support children who are functioning below the national curriculum levels and access an individualised curriculum. Over recent years we have utilised some of the ASDAN courses and have recently appointed a teaching assistant as a vocational skills coordinator.

We are fortunate to have 1 full time and 1 part time Board Certified Behaviour Analysts (BCBA) based at the school permanently and they work closely with teachers to facilitate with the planning of skills based learning, cooperation and behaviour management. We also work closely with Speech and Language Therapists and Occupational Therapists who visit the school regularly.

Reflect Education own and operate the Gwenllian Education Centre as well as a number of other organisations locally. They are based in Kidwelly, recently voted the best place to live in Wales. We are fortunate to be serviced with a local bus and rail network and about half hour drive from the M4 motorway.
