Broomhill Primary School and Nursery School serves an area in the south west of Aberdeen and consists of predominantly private housing.

Although the school is of granite construction and Victorian design (built in 1895), an ongoing and targeted programme of maintenance and refurbishment ensures the building is appropriate for the delivery of a modern curriculum. Recent improvements have been made to the playground and classrooms.

An after-school club was established at the start of the session.

Broomhill is one of four primary schools within the catchment for Harlaw Academy. Very good working relationships exist between the primary schools and with the secondary to ensure smooth transition to S1.

Currently, the school has a roll of 368 pupils arranged in 15 classes.

3% of pupils are entitled to free school meals and around 10% of our children have English as an Additional Language, with 50% of those competent or fluent in English.

There is an 80 place nursery and, as in previous years, we have a waiting list for places.

The Senior Management Team, consisting of a Head Teacher and 2 Depute Head Teachers, one of whom is part time, lead and manage the school which is staffed by 20 class teachers, a part-time support for learning teacher, 4 part-time specialists. 5 Early Years Practitioners and 9 Pupil Support Assistants.

Support is also provided by the EAL Unit, Autism Outreach, Social Work, School Nurse, School Doctor and Educational Psychologist as appropriate. Many of our pupils have the opportunity to receive tuition for a variety of musical instruments from visiting Music Instructors.

In addition to classrooms, we have a computer suite, two libraries, a gymnasium, general purpose room, a dedicated science room and a school dining room and servery.

Our outdoor classroom, environmental garden and enhanced playground provision/furniture have greatly improved the outdoor experience and delivery of the curriculum for our pupils.

Broomhill has high expectation and pupils at the school attain and achieve very well. There are many opportunities for children to participate in extra-curricular activities

The duties of the Head Teacher are: 1. To lead and manage learning and teaching 2. To lead and develop staff, children and young people 3. To lead change and improvement 4. To use resources effectively 5. To build community .

This is an exciting and challenging post requiring current and relevant senior management experience. The post holder should be ambitious to lead the school forward, implementing existing plans and ensuring the pupils continue to receive the highest quality education.
